transplanting elephant ears

Wichita, KS(Zone 6a)

I had to dig up and transplant an elephant ear that had grown to large and was overwhelming nearby plants -

What should I do to ensure it takes the relocation well? I dug up as much of the root ball as possible and soaked the plant in its new location - anything else I should do?

thanks

I usually just give them lots of water when I move them. Sometimes a leaf or two will burn or get crispy on the edges and sometimes the plant almost completely dies back and starts over. The good part is you have a killer root to start with so they normally take off quickly and with the heat we've all been having, that should be really quick! LOL

I would throw in a handful of well rotted manure and compost too.

thanks ya'll

I did throw some manure around the bottom of the new hole, also!

I've found that the more dirt you can transfer with it, the better they adjust. They don't much like having their roots disturbed.

thanks -

some of the leaves ended up shriveling and looking nasty, so I cut them off and new ones have since shot out to replace them
