Question on height

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

I have all my brugs growing in containers. Some of the containers are planted in the ground. Some are sitting on top of the soil. I am getting lots of suckers from my plants which is great because I wanted to use them to create standards for next year. The only problem is they are all Ying while still short (3'-4'). I want TALL. I want all my brugs to be the backdrop of my beds. They are going to have to be taller than my canna's and phlox.

Do brugs keep getting taller each year even after Ying if kept around for a long time? Kind of like a tree growing up. I have noticed that a few of my kept overs from last year are taller this year than last. Seems like the new growth coming from the top of the plant is going strong and UP and UP. I know some brugs aren't good canidates for being tall but rather bushy. I would love to see a list of brugs that aren't good canidates for tall standards.

I have to add that I am very excited. Most all of my brugs are getting ready to bloom.

Your very welcome Viv. I'm glad you are enjoying them and that they are going to bloom so soon for you. I love the excitement of first blooms.
