I saw a picture of a weeping butterfly bush in a catalog, and it would look SSSSOOO good in my front yard -- interrupt that d@%^&d St. Augustine -- but want some input. I'll check the plant files, of course, but it's nice to get input this way. Anyone have or had one? Loved it? Hated it?
Thanks
weeping butterfly bush
I have a black knight butterfly bush. Don't know if it is weeping or not...
They call the Nanho Purple an 'arching' bush. It is very pretty.

Thanks, dancey; Parks isn't where I'd seen it, but as I've been very happy with them, that's probably where I'll get it. The pic I saw was from farther back, and it looked like a cross between a weeping willow and a wisteria. Amazing.
Here we go. From right here at DG

I think it is beautiful!

Well, the feedback on the plants from that link make me think it's a good idea. I know the pic I saw was a professional nursery pic, but the ones on the link are gorgeous as well. That does it. I'm getting on the Parks website! I have an order in with them that will come in the fall, and I'm sure they won't mind taking more money to add something to it!
Here is another pic of it at High Country Gardens.

I have ordered from this nursery many times and been very satisfied.
I have an order coming in October from them. May just have to add this beautiful butterfly bush to my order. ;) I've really never paid much attention to it before.

Either nursery, I think you'll be so glad you ordered it. ;)
This is the nice thing about moving to a place where no gardener has been before (I think the former owners mowed, but that's about it). I have a blank slate. :>
Me either but I just LOVE it. I get/have gotten a bunch from HCG before also. Their plants are great for our heat.
Brigid that's a gardener's dream.........a blank slate. lol You have the whole pallet to play with.
HCG does an excellent job of packaging their plants too. I've never lost a plant from their nursery.
I'm taking your word for it -- just ordered a weeping butterfly bush, and it will be sent in October.
Thanks for doing my research!
Ann
You're very welcome Ann! I am going to get one too. ;) I talked myself into it. lol I'll order mine from HCG too. My birds need more shrubs.

I'm not sure about the 'weeping' version, but here's a few photos and some info that you may find useful if you haven't already ordered anything. The one I ordered called "Twilight Butterfly Bush" was produced for our hot dry climate and looks much like the Royal Red version - only hardier - from what I was told.
I ordered 2 and planted them out in full sun (4th of July weekend). They're doing fine and one already has a bloom. They're pretty small, but are suposed to grow to around 8' x 8' . . . hope that helps?

This image was take'n 7/6/06 - planted a few days after it came in the mail. There's a photo of the bloom of a full size plant in the above linked thread.
b. alternofolia is definitely weeping. way more than b. davidii.
