Hey! Where did everybody go?

I can't believe a whole day went by with nobody posting anything on the CDN forum! I'm in withdrawal - I need a fix, fast :-)

Check out Hostas! ;-)

Good morning.

Good morning. Love your new site setup Ann! I've bookmarked it so I can go back and compare some pics of hostas I bought back before I knew you should keep the tags to identify them again later - very newbie gardener then :-)

Hello, I'm still around. Just inside, between moving hoses. I picked up my mum last night, Ginny. Looking very healthy and strong. Thank you, thank you. And thanks to Donna for looking after it so well. Had a nice visit with her. My first chance to get over. So many lovely tropicals and vines all over.

Here's what's tickling my fancy today. My crocosmias that I forgot in the garden last fall have started to bloom already.

Yep, I agree, it's been so quiet in here.

Hi echoes. Glad you finally got the chance to get your chrysanthemum. Its mom actually survived the fallen tree with only three small tips broken off at the ends.

I just love crocosmia, but I didn't think they would survive the winter in your zone. Nice to see I was wrong :-) Mine are blooming now too - they're so cheerful I smile every time I walk by them.

Ginny - We all have those hostas (or other plants) that we didn't keep the tags for. Actually, for many of my plants, I don't think there will ever be an obsession like with the Hostas and I really don't care as long as I know generally what kind of plant it is. But it has become important to me (and most Hostaholics) to identify the specific varieties. I know better about keeping the tags now. LOL

echoes,

How do you get the crocosmias to grow in your zone? I haven't had much luck here with them. Do you dig and bring them in as you would a canna?

Sandy

Sandy, I ran out of steam last fall, as I do most years. The crocosmias were started in a pot and then the whole clump planted in the ground later last spring. They had an awful probem with spider mites, so I just cut them all off to the ground and never saw them again last year. I didn't really expect them back, but maybe I was just so mean they came back for spite. The ones I planted this year aren't quite blooming yet, and the yellow ones, don't even have buds. Sometimes you just never know what will make it. I left my Agapanthus out too, and it came back. Lots of snow cover and a fairly mild winter, although we did get some real cold before the snow came.

crocosmias are new to me. Are they easy to find? Expensive? I don't think I want anything else that I have to dig up, but it would be worthwhile to try leaving them if they aren't too pricey and if you had success with them. Is there another addiction coming on?

Ann, no more addictions....you'll have no lawn left! Quick, hit the shower and give yourself a couple of slaps! LOL
