squash question

Plano, TX

Is it possible to over water squash? My zucchini and crook neck look great in the morning before watering but soon thereafter they start to wilt. Part of the problem is Texas heat- We have had 104-106 degrees for 9 days in a row and overnite temp of 84-88. I figured they needed alot of water in this heat but maybe not. All advice is welcome

The problem may be just the heat or it could be from the sun scalding the wet plants. I try to water really early in the morning so the foliage is somewhat dried out before the sun gets too hot. Of course, this means starting about 4:00 am or using soaker hoses so only the roots are watered and it doesn't hit the leaves. Hope this helps.

"The number one killer of plants in America today is over water"...just joking! It gets so hot here that the plants may look thirsty when they're really just stressed from the heat. I'll check to see if my plants are dry (w/ my finger), and if they aren't, they'll usually perk back up once it gets below the 150* temperature it FEELS like.

If you still have squash alive you are doing good. I have pulled all mine out by now and gave the room to the melons to twine over until Fall planting. It is very ahrd to get squash to last all summer and even if you do they will not give you the fruit they do in the Spring. I would be thinking about taking these out and replanting new plants the first week in Sep IMHO.
