little prince Musa banana?

Wichita, KS(Zone 6a)

Can anyone give me any info on this guy? While driving back from Dallas, I stopped in at a Home Depot (they carry alot different stuff down there) and picked this guy up. He has really big healthy leaves, about a 3 or 4" diameter stalk, and two pups

I know they are like a pygmy banana, but what do they require?

The man who bred it is a good friend of mine. I will ask him today, and let you know what he says. I assume you mean in terms of fert and light?

thanks for both the replies-

sometimes those sites can be a little vague and ambiguous about care requirements. I was just seeing if there were any little tips and tricks to keeping this guy from people who have kept them before. Tigerlily - that would be great!

I have a call into Randy...he will call back soon!

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

I just talked to Randy...he's happy that they are selling them in Dallas! He said to treat them like normal bananas-lots of nitrogen and sunlight light. They do have a higher capacity for shade as the chloroplasts in cells in the leaves of this banana contain more chlorophyll than other bananas.

He said you could treat it as an understory plant, and that the trunk will get to be about 5-6" thick and about 2-3' high.
Hope that helps!

thats great! Thanks so much for making the call
