New Bloom

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

First bloom for this one... I got it from Ed Gilding as collected in the Bata Valley...and it is the same as the one sold by Ted Green as H. sp. Sulawesi. Ed says it is a real weed...and I have to say, the growth outdoors is impressive and the blooms are too. So glad to have a new flower. Yes, it is an eriostemma.

Growing them is no problem! Getting them to bloom is... *big sigh* I WILL get one to bloom before I retire!

OH...and here is a funny one...about 8 months ago I moved a H. pubicalyx from a table under the bamboo to inside the Greehouse so I could photograph it. I had to cut off a vine...but paid no attention. I couldn't figue out what the bloom was on the bamboo...

NOTE: Not attached to any pot.

Carol, your Sulawesi blooms look almost surreal, very cool. And that pubicalyx flower is amazing-all I can really say, is, well, "only in Hawaii".

OH...David Liddle said it looks like a H. sussuela and TG said he sells it under the name of H. sussuela Lutea. So...I guess it IS a sussuela. They are so varied in color forms.

My aff. anulata just keeps blooming and blooming!
I must share.

edited to say: I didn't mean to hijack Carol's thread ... I meant to post this on the July Blooms thread. Sorry!!! :0)

Carol,

The leaves look small, but that could be an illusion. How big are they? Great flowers!

Denise...on that 'sussuela', the leaves are quite large and prominently veined...like cv. Ruthie if not a bit larger.

Carol

Piglette...love your anulata...aren't they FUN!

Yes, they are!

Carol,
Great bloom. And how funny the Pub bloomed in the bamboo.
I have had very few blooms. Maybe as mine get more potbound they will bloom better.
