I had trouble saving the zoomed pic, sorry it's so little. It's already 84!
Wish I had a cooling bandana!
He's really given up, hasn't he? I know how he feels.
Cute little guy..
It's really hard to garden in this heat..Much better to look at pictures on Dave's website..
I don't know how I missed this thread! What an adorable photo!
We finally got some much needed rain here in my town. The last week has been 90 to 100 plus heat indices. Today, it went from 95 (actual temp) to 77 in about 10 minutes. But man is it humid out there.
Must have rain on the way if it is that humid out. Then again, maybe not. It got to 101 degrees today and heat index was around 115. Hot enough to steal your breath when you walk outside.
It was already so humid it did just that......steal your breath.....then after the rain, it was actually a little chilly out, yet you could see the fog on the ground. It's thundering again, so maybe we'll get lucky again tonight. It was 101 day before yesterday, heat index at 115. And like a fool, my husband I spent the morning planting. Talk about hot. It's so amazing though how much better the plants look after a rain instead of after a watering with the hose.
It's true, rain is so much better thatn the hose, I grew up in Illinois and I don't remember any day over 100! That reminded me of how it would cool off after a rain.....her it just gets hotter, like a sauna.
That little squirrel is there almost every day....he drives my cats crazy.
You don't remember any day over a hundred? We get a lot of them. What was it, 10 or so years ago, we had such intense heat, hundreds of elderly people died. Perhaps as a kid it just didn't affect you that much? Today it cooled after the rain, but that's not normal. Usually the sun comes out and it's hotter than ever. I'm in the north western part of IL too!
Do you have a birdbath out for him to get a drink of water? He's just too cute! I can imagine what it's doing to your cat......I have a little long haired chihuahua and it would drive her totally mad!
No, it's been about 25 years ago. My DH and I went home, Jacksonville, in November and it was so bitter cold, that part hasn't changed!
He has water, little cut up pieces of apples, and peanuts, all he needs is a fan! We quit feeding the birds because we got roof rats, so he only gets what he can eat in a couple hours.
LOL! Cold in November.....I'm sorry, you really are making me laugh! We lived for 17 months in TN...July 03 to Dec 04, when I came home, I kept saying it was soooo cold! My dad, to this day, says my blood must of thinned while we lived there! I really have to admit though, that it was one of the things I missed about home (IL) was the cold and the snow. It never felt right in TN because it didn't snow but a flurry. I remember it being Dec 6th and I was outside weeding, wearing a t-shirt! And a short-sleeved t-shirt at that! I love the seasons. Fall isn't fall when it's hot and humid out. Trees are turning colors, yet I'm sweating my butt off? Something just isn't right!
You are so sweet to put out treats for your furry friend! What are roof rats though? I don't feed the birds because of all the HOSP I have here.
Roof rats are nasty critters that get in your attic, multiply and chew everything they can. Rats here are huge! They're still around, not in our attic at this time, because alot of people feed the birds. The good thing is they will attract the rat snake. So, you have to take your choice, I'll take the snake anyday.
I know what you mean about wearing a t-shirt in Dec, I've done that here. I do miss the seasons up north. Oh, I remember the swallows too.
Ick! I'm not in a city, but a rural small town. Surrounded by farms, but we always lived in town. I know I've heard farmers complain about rats, but I've honestly never seen one. I don't think I want to! In the attic? Above my bed?? Pardon me while I go shake the willies off of me now.....
