For All You Variegated Lovers........

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I had this plant but could never really find the spot that showed it off the best. Finally, it's found it's place. It's really a cool costus with dark red stems and furry leaves. And after some acclimation, it's taking lots of sun better than I thought it ever could, so if you like variegation (shame on you if you don't) and don't have this one, it's worth considering. It looks awesome in mass too.

thats a beautiful varigated costus, it really shows up well against the other colors.... How does it overwinter and also is it a good bloomer?

tigerlily, this is my first year to have it. the write up on it describes "dark maroon terminal cones from which while 'crepe' flowers emerge," which sounds interesting. They also say that is not as hardy as non-variegated type...zone 9 and higher. it looks great next to anything maroon (your coleus or rojo maybe), but i don't know if it could pass your 'cold hardy tropical experiment' test. :o))
