How cute is this??

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It was hiding down low under leaves. I was so happy I saw it. I loved it at first sight. I bent down to read the tag, and loved it even more.

I was so shocked to see it was one of Tracey's (a great and generous brug grower who used to grow brugs professionally before she went back to college). It was one of those I kept over for over a year in a gallon can and planted it late last year down at the plots.

I had sent Tracey RK pollen and she sent me seeds. This is Kell's Baby Girl X RK. And for the life of me I can't remeber if KBG is the white one Susie named for me or the PINK one Tracey/Susie named for me.
At any rate I just love the brug.

Hey Ada.....want some of this pollen for your new low calyx one?? We can start a whole line of brugs called Low Riders. LOL And PS I am taking my name back of Mae West. LOL

Very pretty, Kell. I like the color too.

Kell the white one was named for u by Cala. it is called Kell's Girly Girl. i still have that one, one of the few that survived the two harsh winters. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/367469/

I will have to go back and read the tag again Ma Vie. I have it in initials.....it could have been KGG instead of KBG. It kind of looks like the one you have. It is not big either. So we now know Kell's Girly Girl is hardy! LOL

Oh Ada, I just looked at yours again and yours is so much bigger but also I may like your skirt more. I will have to see what the other blooms look like on this one. This one was its first bloom. So we shall see.

For newbies, here is Tracey's brug greenhouse. Talk about having BIG brugs!! Tracey has long hair, Susie is the blonde and Frannie is next to Susie. Not the best pic any of them. LOL. Looks like Tracey is pollinating that bloom. I can't remember who took this picture, maybe Root.

Oh me .. gosh Kell, you make my brugs look pitiful .. they certainly don't have to struggle in your climate!

So true, brugs love it here, they really do! I get the most fun from brugs when I get to see brand new ones. I think that is what keeps me doing all this work. It is so exciting! I think my life must be pretty boring. LOL.

My boy called me last night all excited about life. He is running all about in New York City having such a great time being 24 and with lots of his own money for the first time in his life! Funny how things change. Made me feel like a granny now being so content to stay at home with my hands and feet in the mud waiting on plants to bloom. LOL.

For Everything There Is a Season

For every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace.

And soon it will be time for tomatoes. Another huge excitement in my life. LOL

Kell, I have been peeking into the forums occasionally, My life has been a bit more hectic since I went back to work.
Yesterday I came home from work, picked my beans, way to much for 5 people. Picked 2 tomatoes and 6 cucumbers. Cooked the beans, ate creamed beans over toast with tomato and cucumbers... Watered my flowers that are in pots, and finally went to bed at 1045. Got up this morning and was at work by 6 for another 13 hour day. Came home, family time, and peaked into the forums.
What a wonderful life I have... The best is coming home to my sweet grandson Tayson.
I do love that song. It is one of my favorite. Thanks for sharing. Marie
PS My brugs still aren't showing any form of buds, :( I hope to see some before summer ends.
PPS Your garden looks wonderful. (life isn't hectic, it's grand!)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Marie, don't you know you are not supposed to go to work in summer!!! Too many other things to do then. So how do you make creamed beans? I never hear of them.

I had 3 tomatoes Sunday right off the vine. They were so good. LOL

This forum is killing me. At least it is not physically killing me like a alchol addiction or drugs, But it is mentally killing me. I HAVE to have one of those with the long curly tendrils. You know I think a person should realize that they have a serious problem when your vocabulary consists mostly of I HAVE to have. People think I am nuts for all the flowers I have and Hvae to have.

I hope I never get any serious help. I would hate to ever be cured totally. My be if I could get to I would love to have or I must have. But to HAVE??? Well most of you know what I am talking about.

How many of you have it this bad with many different kinds of flowers?? I would be ashamed to tell how many different kinds of Flowers I HAVE to HAVE

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^.

Hi Kell, I am off work today, irrigation day. I am babysitting my little Tayson, Walker and Jaxzen today. I tried taking pictures while holding Tayson, Not a good idea :). He is so wiggley.

My shoulders are better, and it was no fun not having a paycheck for 2 months. I used all my savings (that was in the bank), and I hate asking for money from my sweetheart. We have found it much nicer and easier to have our separate accounts and each have bills we are responsible for. The bills get paid, we each can spend a little money on things that we want, and we each pitch in for joint ventures...vacations, dining out...
Plus, I really love my job. So gardening and work just have to work together. My boss is very nice to me an gives me the requested days off that I need. Like irrigation day.

Sandy, I think that all the time. Shout it out in my mind. I HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE!, but I hold back - sometimes - I too have many different flowers. Many of my neighbors (church group) are getting together on the 15th of August - in my back yard for an evening social. So I have to spruce things up. My hardy hibiscus are just coming into bloom, I am so excited. They are so beautiful.

Kell, I am the 7th of 8 children. My twin brother is the 8th. So we are the cabooses. We lived on a farm and among other things grew beans for DelMonte. So we ate lots of beans. Mother was so great at making good meals. Creamed beans or creamed peas over toast was one of my favorite (and it feeds a large family c little cost) - with other fresh vegies to the side.

I snip the beans and add them to water c a little salt and cook them for about 15 -20 minutes. In another pan I put "about" 2 cups milk, 2 tbs butter and add enough flower to slightly thicken - maybe 2 heaping tbs and salt to taste. I use a rubber spatula to scrap the bottom so it doesn't scortch and a rubber whisk. I add celery salt and garlic salt for increased flavor because the sauce can be rather bland. I just eye all the ingredients. When the beans are cooked (or you can use canned beans that are drained, fresh are much better) I add it to the cream sauce and let it simmer for 5 or so minutes. I make toast, butter it a little 'real butter' and put the creamed beans over the toast and enjoy.

BTW, Kell, your brugs, and other flowers, and garden... are beautiful~! wonderful~!, fabulous~! ... just as your knowledge and help are. The comments and threads from all are so helpful, aren't friends and family wonderful?

Thanks, Marie

Oh Sandy, I too suffer from the I want syndrome. This place is wicked for the addicted.

Marie, don't you just hate it when you are working you have no time to spend all the money you make but when you are not working you have all the time to spend the money you do not have. No fair! I am glad you are feeling so much better though.

I will have to try your creamed beans. THANKS for the recipe. My Mom used to make creamed beef on toast which is so similar. I go to the Farmer's Market for my veggies and they have great string beans. There more tender round ones. I won't eat the other kind, what Blue Lake?, anymore. They also have the little French ones that are good. Ever since a light bulb went off and told me to use scissors instead of a knife in snipping off the ends, the prep goes so much faster. My DH might eat them if I make them your way.

Brigham City, UT(Zone 5b)

Kell, I need to know the name of the round more tender ones. Mine are the Blue Lake variety, that is what I grew up with and I do like them but I would like to try something different.

OK, I am going to confess.....What does DH mean? I suppose that It means Darling Husband, but I am not sure. I can figure out the others, I think, but I haven't been sure on this one. I have been on DG since December and just getting the courage to ask. I knew my friend Kell wouldn't think me stupid.

Marie

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Marie, I am such a DUH girl, I think no one is stupid. I usually use DH as darling or dear husband but on occasion have really meant dumb husband or darn husband depending on his in house status at that moment. But do not tell him. LOL

I get the green beans at the Farmer's Market. I will take a picture of them for you. They are just great. They usually do not have a name. I will ask. I can always tell the Blue Lake ones from these because of the shape of the tube. Also the color of these are very green.

Brigham City, UT(Zone 5b)

Thanks Kell for straightening that up for me,
I have been gone for a few days - sight seeing on the back of our motorcycle. Over 1000 miles. The temp was 104 the first day and only up to 100 today. It seemed what I would think a blast furnace would feel like. I am sure glad that I am home in my air conditioning.

My daughter was in charge of watering the pots and irrigating. Well, she forgot. She remembered the next morning and gave them a good soak but some are still drooping. My white Brug is very sad looking, the pink looks half dead and the yellow is coming back a bit. I am going to prune tomorrow and see what they do.

Marie

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh no, of all times to forget to water! If the stems are still healthy, they will grow back all their leaves fast Marie with some care. Brugs shed fast to show their displeasure but they refoliate fast too.

1000 miles on the back of a motorcycle. Amazing. Did you have to wear lots of protective gear in this heat? I won't go anywhere without an air conditioner attached to me. I am too old for this heat. I also notice I do not bounce back very fast anymore. I need to be pruned too. LOL
