But I keep trying.
All of mine look ill. And all look like they are dying from something different.
I need help or a psychiatrist.
How sad is this???
I am an EE killer!
Not an expert but possibly too much sun? too much water?
You don't need a psychiatrist, just more medication.
I am saying spidermites. Check the underside of the leaves for white dust they are tiny little bugs taking the juice right out of the leaves.
OH no...the dreadly Spider Mite strikes again!!! Kell...you MAY need a shrink!!
Carol
You are so smart Brian, mites all over. LOL. Funny too because I can spot a mite on a brug a mile away but I never even thought mites on these. I just ran out and sprayed them with Neem before it go too dark.
LOL Carol, I surely do. I can't believe I have another mite lover. Geesh will I ever learn?
Kell - You also missed the most important point....YOU are NOT an EE killer. You in fact just saved them. You have been redeemed. LOL
I love elephant ears and you have several varieties that are so beautiful! Maybe, if I can manage to get a cutting of my double hibiscus to root, you might be up for a trade someday. :-)
Well Deb, I think you should check back in a month and see if they are still breathing. LOL. So you think they may multiply? Here gallon size root bound ones, go for about $10. Hard to resist such big ones for that price.
Kell, when I had spider mites on mine, I cut off every leaf that had them, except the newest leaf after I sprayed them. I watched the new leaf for mites, and kept rinsing it with water, and if it had just a lillte colony of mites still going, as soon as I saw a new leaf, I took that one off too. Now I don't have any, and the plants are full again.
OUCH! No, here you pay triple that for a one-gallon pot, and it is by no means rootbound and can take some time to bloom regularly.
LOL
Oh well, I hear that it is the thought that counts.
You may also check the Florida forum for a thread called "Help! My elephant ears are dying!"
Great advice for ya there. Some of it is quite entertaining as well.

Kell, I feel for ya! I have had more mite problems (especially on my ee's) this year than ever! And then aphids....Holy Cow....they are driving me nutzzzz too! Good Luck! I'll be thinking of you everytime I spy those blasted mites that keep coming back!
Dozilla,
I just got here and I agree about your link. Not only is it good, but it hilarious. There is now a part II.
I have a couple and I think I better check mine too.
Hi Kell.
Hap
Thanks Dogzilla!
Hi Happy! Hi Brinda!! I was out yesterday and I have mites on everything, even some roses. I never have had mites on my roses before. I wonder if it was that hot spell we had. I hate mites.
OH Kell....they have moved in and taken up homestead around here. This is the first year I've battled so many things at once. Good Luck! I'm off to buy more Bayer 2in1 systemic....it seems to be the only thing helping right now. I'm just petrified that I may burn some of the plants, especially since we are so hot here.!
I just used a huge thing of Bayer 2 in 1 for roses yesterday! And for the first time I used it on my roses. I have to Neem everything today. I was thinking of trying the predatory mites that eat mites. They could feast for days. I am getting sick of all these chemicals.
I just got my supply today at HD. I seem to have more than other years.
Just like when the kids were little, you had to check back of their EARS to make sure they were clean....LOL
Hap
I'm on a quest to figure out how to annihilate some cottony cushion scale, or at least that is what I think it is. I seem to spend many hours spraying stuff here and there. LOL When I conquer one thing something else pops up. But this scale is taking over most all my coleus and it's really ticking me OFF! I think I read somewhere that someone used Malathon....is that right? Is that a correct word? I'll have to go back and try to find that thread now. LOL
This all has to be due to the fact that our winter was very mild and it is so HOT now....I think they're reproducing ten fold (at once) and they'ver certainly hung signs all over town that this is a great salad bar!
Just as and I said.....get a good supply of Bayer 2 in 1. If not that Bayes Aspirin.....LOL
LOL Hap....you da funny one!
Well....I found it. The word I was looking for is Malathion. I googled it and it's also used to treat head lice! EeeeeewWWWWWwwwwww! That gives me the creeps! And I'll think of head lice now everytime I'm out trying to kill these boogers! I bet I itch for days now! LOL
Well, if you buy the Malathion, Brinda, you may have another 2 for 1......ROTFL
Gosh what coincidences. I just took 2 Bayers Aspirin Hap and I bought a big thing of Malathion, Brinda! LOL!!
My troublefree, bugless, wonder phormium plants turn out to all have mealy bugs deep in their folds. And how they got to everyone of my phormiums all over the yard, beats me. Maybe they do have signs on them, Brinda!!
I never heard of cottony cushion scale Brinda, but when I had bad hard scale, the only thing that got rid of it was Bayer Tree and Shrub. 1 dose.
Ouch! Remind me that I don't want phormium...LOL...I have enough problems with what I am dealing with now. I've been outside most all day spraying and squishing these nasty things. My poor thumbnail is forever colored brown now from pinching coleus and these nasty critters!
I'm trying so hard to keep everything looking good until our reception on August 26th and I'm not sure I'm going to make it. As I was searching all the nooks and crannies for the scaley critters I seriously thought of a flame thrower!!! Oh how I would love to do that...RIGHT NOW!
I'm heading for the shower and then off to Lowe's to hopefully find some poison for these things. I'm sure I'll come home with 10-12 bottles of Bayer as I have mites on everything. Even my Hyacinth Bean Vines are covered in spider mites! And now I'm finding white flies on my million bells and hibiscus! Can you believe all of this??? LOL
I feel for you Brinda....
Get both Bayer's..........
Hap
LOL Hap! You always make me smile!
You too, Brinda.
I've got spider mites on my hostas of all things. That's a first!!!! Brinda, you must be right about the warm winter. I'm sure it didn't help anything.
Which Bayer products are all using and is it safe for hostas?
Debbie
Debbie,
It's in the blue container. There is a liquid and granules. I have used the liquid which is great and I just bought the grans this weekend. It's called Bayer's 2 in 1 Systemic Bug Killer. Just can't use it on stuff you want to eat. It's great.
Hap
It's the weather I tell ya, the weather is bringing the plauges of Egypt! Next it will be locusts!
I have locusts too!!!! There's a kazillion little holes under all my trees.
See, told ya!
AAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
