I live in Zone 8b and have this growing in the ground..It's a double red...TIA...Jeanne
Do you know who I am??
don't know name, but a beauty it is. I don't think I have seen a double red-- pink, yellow or peach but no dbl red.
I saw a beautiful true red double this past Thursday at Lowe's. I almost succumbed and bought it but my self discipline was just amazing this week. (there is a first for everything)LOL
Did you notice the name on it?...Doesn't anyone have any idea of my Hibiscus name?...TIA...Jeanne
Lowe's only sell generic hibs around here, no names. Sorry
I saw this one at Home Depot today...it was labeled Dynamite Red. They also had them in apricot, a paler shade than you usually see. HTH!
Thanks Tess...Mine is about 10 years old!!..Will go google that name...I appreciate your help!!...Jeanne
It looks alot like a variety that I have called "Pride of Hankins".
It has very strong roots and therefore is used as rootstock for many hibiscus grafts.
Do you know where your plant came from? Monrovia has at least one double red cultivar, but you would only find their stuff at garden centers, not Lowes/Home Depot. I tried to load their website so I could post the link to the plants I saw, but it seems to be having trouble. It's www.monrovia.com, then if you look under hibiscus and click on the ones that have pictures you should be able to find it.
I just picked up a double red at Home Depot today, they labelled it as 'Double Celia Red'. Here's the picture of it from PF--looks a bit like yours but it's hard to say for sure.

I just saw a double red Monrovia called "Red Dragon". I took a few photos but I am traveling this weekend and the cable I need to download the pictures is still in the car. I'll bring it in to the hotel tonight and download them. The back of the flower had some pale whiteish streaks.
Thanks for that pic..I don't think mine is that variety..you are right mine is thicker and more ruffled and a lighter shade of red I think..thanks for posting a pic!!...Jeanne
