Just something I heard, don't know if it works... but thought I'd share it. I have problems with squirrels digging up my bulbs, taking a bite, and dropping them. They've dug up everything I've planted at least once. But I heard that Medicated Baby Powder around the area of the bulb will keep them from doing this. Anyone ever hear of this or tried it or have better ideas?
I've tried everything that I know of... mostly moth balls, which don't work that well. I even have a garden owl.

Medicated Baby Powder
Donna. the easiest thing is to just plant the bulbs, put down a sheet of chicken wire over them and then put dirt over everything. You won't have to worry about reapplying something and the squirrels won't be able to get past the chicken wire.
You can get it at your local farm and feed store, Lowes, I think Walmart even carries it. You don't need the real heavyweight chicken wire but you will need something you can use to snip the chicken wire.
Nice tip!! I'll try to remember that the next time I plant bulbs.
Thanks,
Donna
You can do the same with your bulbs that are already planted. Just wait until the foliage dies down, dig off a little soil, put down the chicken wire and replace the soil. The bulbs of course grow right up through the wire.
I've used it on plants and it kept the rabbits away. They don't even go into that part of the yard anymore!
The squirrels usually leave my plants alone, but I bet it would work to keep them away too. It's worth a try, but the chicken wire idea sounds like a winner.
Robert.
