Blooming again.
Tami
Hoyas Multiflora Variegata
Congratulations Tami on your beautiful plant and blooms.
Patti
Great shot, Tami. One can easily see why they dubbed this one "The Shooting Star" hoya. Just like something out of Star Wars.
Marcy
Thanks everybody. I may only have one bloom at a time but I have blooms. LOL
Tami
Nice, Tami!
Tami, H. multiflora was one of the first I got to bloom too, other than H. compacta. Just give it plenty of water in this heat and keep it in dappled sun or semi-shade. You know what our Texas sun is like.
Susan
congrats on your bloom...
Oh Tami - VERY VEEERY pretty! =0)
Oooooh, pretty!
Thanks everybody and I noticed today that I have three more bloom thingy's(forget what they are called) on it and another hoya has two new ones as well. I don't remember any blooming like this before for me.
Tami
Oh (sigh) what a stunner!
I hope some day mine blooms! I just LOVE the multiflora..I think it is in danger of being my favorite
I have botht he variegated and the all green which someday, when I repot..I would like to put in the same pot
Lorry,
I have both as well. These are too big already for the same pot. Well I guess I could get a bigger pot. LOL
Tami
Isn't it a nice feeling to be able to say, "oh, dear, it's outgrown it's pot"???
Ann
Tami, she is beautiful, mine has grown like a weed since I got her and is growing peduncles again, has anyone else noticed it actually drips? I saw it on the leaf underneath!
Another question~ how long does it take from peduncles forming to blooming? I assume it is different from plant to plant!?
I have a small cutting I am rooting right now of a Hoya Bella and I think through the baggie I can detect a tiny peduncle forming, is that normal? Peduncles before roots?
Yes, Becky. I have noticed some nectar on mine too. It tastes like sugarwater.
As for peduncle, I have seen others report on this forum their multiflora/javonica's bud and bloom while rooting - although I don't know the differences in energy it takes to create a peduncle as opposed to blooms. But, it doesn't seem unreasonable for that plant.
Ann
LOL, sorry Ann, I am now having visions of you wandering around licking your plants! LOLOL (I do have a warped mind)
Dang, I've been busted!!! It's just that when I see this pretty drippy stuff, my curiosity gets the best of me and I have to, erm, sample (LOL).
Ann
Ann and Bec,
Y'all are a hoot. This is just a great group. I have not noticed any nectar dripping nor been induced to lick it. I'll keep my eyes pealed now for sure though. Maybe not my tongue but my eyes. :-)
Tami
I must admit I have sampled the nectar from nearly all my hoyas (yes, I was one of those very curious children who put everything in her mouth). There are a lot of differences between them. Some, like the kerrii, obovata, and kentiana are really thick, like molasses, and have a really syrupy taste to them (you know, like it should be poured on pancakes), on the other hand the multiflora, cv. Jennifer, tjadasmalanguensis nectars are very thin and pretty much just taste like a light sugar water.
I am intrigued about what each bloom, its nectar & fragrance, are meant to attract. My first guess is ants since at least two hoyas (that I am aware of) have a symbiotic relationship with ants (the imbricata & the sp. New Guinea Ant Funnel), but since the smell intensifies at night, what other critters are meant to be attracted for pollination, etc.???
Now, I know y'all gonna think I'm crazy, but take a dab and put it on your tongue (unless you have recently used a systemic) and check it out.
