agapantha seeds

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

been waiting to harves agapantha seeds...the pods have almost disappeared and not one brown...I took a green one and opened it...and there is a brown flat thing in there...i hope a seed...does anyone know when you can harvest these pods...do you in fact do it when they are green....probably the squirrels eating them

I have had agapanthus seeds, the pod should go brown and split, but if the seeds are ready just before it browns and the pod shows signs of splitting it should be OK.

It sounds as though your seed is not viable, they should be black and have a hard lump at one end with a papery tail. They look like hosta seeds.

It is the speices which are more likely to make seed, hybrids tend not to make seed although some might make a few.

thanks...I appreciate that....im afraid I just go for the baby bulbs....but since joining daves...so many people have sent me seeds for different things, I now find myself looking for anything I can making seeds. Seen you garden and plants many times.....very nice!

Thanks, it is fun to grow from seeds, and if they are fresh you will mostly get very good germination. Bought seeds are often old and don't grow. I have grown many plants from my own seed.

Keep looking, and enjoy!
