Luna Moth

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

What a surprise this morning when I walked out the front door. We leave the porch light on at night and I guess this one forgot to leave this morning.
I got the photos and moved him to a safe spot so the cats couldn't get him.
This is one of my favorites.....

oh big Congrats Dee. I am still wishing and hoping for one. Some people have all the luck. I may borrow your pic for my presentation if I don't get one before then if it is alright with you. These poor creatures only purpose in life is to breed and die. They have no mouth in which to feed. They are born, breed and die in 5 to 10 days. What a waste of such a beautiful thing

thanks for the Info Donna, I had no Idea they didn't live long.

Feel free to use the photo, what do the eggs look like?
Do you know what they would lay them on?

Here is another view in case it helps.

I have heard Sweet Gum is a favorite and there are a bunch of the here but still haven't seen one. I don't know about the eggs either. You can believe I will post it if I find it lol. Have had very few of any kind of moths here. Country living is sure different, no street lights all over. Turn the porch light off because it shines in our bedroom frenchdoor ;-(. I used to leave front and back porch lights on at the old place and had a street light in the front and back yard. I worked nights and worked in the yard after I got off work lol

Hummm, no sweet gum around here that I know of. There's a Hackberry in the front yard and several pecan trees and sycamore so I guess they have some good choices.
I've not seen one of these in quite awhile so I was really surprised to find this one. I'm glad I had the 2 cats in the fenced in part of the yard or this beauty would have been gone by the time I got up.

I will keep watching and see what else comes up. I changed the bulb to a floresecent spirl one and I wonder if that had anything to do with him being attracted here? Well if I see anymore I will take care and get some better photos.

Dee
