Is this a bloom coming on my nana?
Could it be??
OOOOHHHHHH!
Nice looks like Musa Bordelon. Large bright pink flowers mine usually bloom at 12 feet.
I'm so excited. When I got this I was told that it was Musa Zebrina. This is on a pup that started last year and over wintered in the garage. It's about 8 ft.
I dont know if this is good or bad news but am pretty sure its Musa Bordelon. Its a much faster and better grower than zebrina the red coloration on the leaves is not as intense as it matures very red under the leaves and a pink flower. The leaves will also get very long and narrow compared to zebrina. Zebrina will be slower keep its color much better but seldom blooms I believe a maroon to greenish flower. I rarely seem them over 5 feet but in some cases 8 feet tall.
Here is a pic of what brodelon will look like when blooming
Congratulations Linda!
Bordelon is a big bloomer (and Pupper too)
8 ft IS a tall one. Potted mine do maybe 6-6.5'.
I've had 4 bloom now.
Mine usually bloom in late December in the GH.
They set fruit well too.........inedible..........but hey it's a banana! lol

Linda, that is beautiful.....will you post it on the tropical fruits forum??? It would be fitting to have that as one of the first posts to the new forum!!! http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/tropicalfruit/all/
Thanks Brian and Henry. It's the only banana I have so I know nothing about them. The leaf has maroon stripes on the front and solid maroon on the back. The leaves started getting very small, and when I saw the stalk swelling I couldn't believe it. I'll try to get better photos but it's hard to get to right now. A Mama Cardinal is tending a nest right by it and it's by the edge of a small koi pond (in a pot). Photo posted was made with the zoom.
Oh Linda, congratulations, that is beautiful.
Thanks, it was very unexpected.
Little bananas are on their way!
It's a totally neat thing to watch happen.

Just so pretty, Linda. Good luck with it.
