Does anyone know about a plant called a shifalaria (not sure of the spelling) is it a house plant? Thanks The correct spelling if you know it.

Question
I think you are referring to Schefflera or otherwise known as Umbrella Tree.
Yes, it is a houseplant and quite easy to grow but will get large if given the room to expand.
Here is a link to it:

Hope this helps,

Paul,
Your plant's name is spelled Schefflera actinophylla. I believe it's now listed under Brassaia actinophylla.
It is a houseplant, native to Australia. They can grow up to forty feet in the wild, but they stay at about two to six feet under household growing conditions.
They like to be warm; nights no less than the low 60's suit them. They like bright indirect light; they'll tolerate full sun if they're kept moist. (They will tolerate full sun, but would really rather not have it.)
Let the soil dry out a bit before watering; if you're not sure of when to water, use your index finger to poke down into the soil up to your first knuckle. If you feel moisture, don't water. If it feels dry, it's time to water.
They don't like drafts; they'll lose leaves at a tremendous rate if they're in one.
Hope this helps you!
Marsha.

Thanks so much

There's also Schefflera arboricola which is commonly grown--it's the one I typically see sold everywhere at nurseries, home centers, etc.
