LOL Kin, I didn't take a measurement. I should have. The bloom looked so weird as it was opening up with the long calyx.

These are more pictures of a second year seedling that I grew out for Susie.

Well it looks beautiful for having such a long trip!!!!
No noticeable Calyx Lag at all.
:)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Kin! You always make me laugh which adds so much to my day. THANKS!

WOW Ada, that second picture really looks like it has an enormously long calyx. WOW! LOL So it wraps around the corolla tube long on one side and much shorter on the other??? That is so cool. I have none like that. Mine have the calyx low all the way around. Yours is too cool. Reminds me of Mae West. I hope it comes up and sees me sometime.

I love your Susie seedling too. Such a pretty color!

They are both lovely Ada.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

very lovely nice..

Gorgeous Ada, I love the long calyx. Susie's cross is nice too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

PS
I meant to add I also love your background Ada, in those pics. You have such great gardens! I am jealous.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks all. This is only the seedlings first bloom and too early to know if it's a keeper or not. I've never had one that had a calyx like this one.
Kell, if you could just see some of the messes I have in my yard. LOL Empty pots, potting soil trailer, potted plants sitting everywhere waiting to get potted to a bigger pot or planted somewhere even if it's in the neighbor's yard. I'll still be planting when it's time to start digging up. LOL The greenhouses are in shreds from the hail storms and that isn't a pretty sight. LOL

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh my gosh Ada! I have never seen a calyx like that. Pretty blooms.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

beautiful Ada. Love the long curly tendrils and the long calyx

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

Ada, nice to 'see' you! Hope you are doing well and enjoying the summer.

I have a lot of wind damage that looks a lot like your hail damage. The flowers make up for it though. Yours sure is a looker! What a pretty flower, it does seem to go on and on and on!

All the best,
Melissa

Ada, that is one of the strangest blooms that I have ever seen and we have had lots of blooms on this forum. Definitely the longest calyx I have ever seen. I am interested to see if the second flush will do the same and I am wonder what gene pool brought this about.

I really like the yellow one and it just looks like it would be very fragrant. . . lol. .. maybe I just want it to be fragrant. I still love those brugs that give off their fragrance that fills a yard in the evening.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Shelly, Donna, Melissa and Frannie.
Melissaa, we had lots of wind with the big hail storm also.
Frannie, this is the first time I've ever had a bloom with such a long calyx. The yellow one is nice and fragrant. It makes my yard smell so good.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Ada.......great smelling yard is one of the things I love about the brugs. Some have a much stronger fragrance but are never too strong for me. I am fortunate that I don't have allergies to scents. Being pretty and smelling great......what more could one ask for.

Wow! Ada, that is the longest calyx I have seen too :o) I love Kells cross too. Is it Brugmansia x 'Hollywood'? ;)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL Tonny. Yes, that's a good cross.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So I read that and thought gee............ that was Susie's cross not mine and then I scrolled up and saw what you meant Tonny. LOL. I still say that bloom looks like Mae West, so sexy Ada.

PS:
Ada if this brug stays so cool I hope you have another contest to name her. If so I put the dibbs in to name her MAE WEST! LOL. So sultry!
