I went to a great open garden Sunday.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The owners had begonias tucked all over among the vaste tropicals. I am sure I missed tons since there was way too much to look at.......I was overloaded.

Only the begonia shots, Sue!

This one had the thickest leaves. Tom had no clue what its name was.

I have this one but of course I can't remember the name. I love it when the sun shines thru it.

When I was there I insisted its name was Paul Hernandez, and then I saw his Paul Hernandez and realized my error. He was looking at me so oddly too, you think I would have gotten the clue. LOL. I never fail to impress all I meet with my plant knowledge.

They had some potted ones around.

I had more pictures but I may have deleted them, a lot got bleached out by the sun. Shoot.

Here is a little hidden garden of begonias under a tree.

Lali do you know the name of the patterned one? It was gorgeous. There is a Gerhtii on the end.

Woo Hoo Kell! nice ones.
I think the last one is b. 'Kit Kat' , the one before is 'Alto Scharff' or 'Ramirez' - we had some discussion here about that before. They are nearly identical. Bet Butch or Jooolz can ID that black one.

Here's the link to the AS or R one from Patricias thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/625438/

Kell, can you post the links here to the other photos you took of this garden?
THANKS for sharing your shots, I can see now that I should have gone!!

I dont know who it is Kell, sorry. Maybe cross check it with Kartuz' site. Brad hybridizes a lot of those upright jointed ones so you might find it there.

Uh, Lali, I getting deja vu, just think, we can keep clicking that link until our computers can't handle anymore ahhhh

ok, I have had a glass of wine.

The begonias were the least of the garden. He had huge bromeliads all over, must have had 30 of them. Even had one that climbs trees and went all the way up. It was so cool.

My favorite was the big clumps of bamboo esp the black clump. They were amazingly beautiful.

Remember how the side of the nursery always has the best plants lined up and out of bounds? I think those must be for him to take home. LOL

I have yet to post many of the pics Lali.

Wow, that's gorgeous, did he have the bromeliads in pots or in the ground?
Another open house anytime soon?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

In pots and in the ground. He has a thing for one that has a purply caste to the leaves, like the one I got at Longs the other day but I think it gets huge. He had that one all over in the ground. I think they will get huge.

He has the open garden once a year. The back yard was a plant nut out of control indulging his every whim to the fullest. It helps that his partner was all in favor of it all and also that he manages such a great nursery.

Can you make them out at the bottom of this photo?
