pics from the Convention
Thanks Ki... wonderful of him to post them for all of us who couldn't go.
I did get to see a few pics from the Gesneriad list..very interesting.
MsC
mmmm... yes, some the photos on the list were great!
Although I don't usually like variegated foliage, I can't get over this one....

which reminds me that I have some "possibly variegated" strep seeds to sow.....
Thanks for posting this for us! I would love to have Connect the Dots.
Oh yes I love variegated anything~ who's the lil guys at its feet???
...what kinda info can you share on breeding streps??? You know like what are the dominate traits etc...I have seen a book about them and it's pretty pricey, would you hapen to have an opinion on it???
Oh and I still have sterps alive here, too...lets see I think they've lived in my care 5 whole days..lol
Do you grow any of the Nautocalyx???
I'm pretty sure the little one in the strep photo is C Light Prince

The only strep hybridizing info I "know" is what's been shared on gesneriphiles. I think the yahoo group is quite active, though.... I haven't heard of the book, so I don't have any thoughts on it - sorry.
I'm currently into kentaniensis (because I never water my plants) and the unifoliates. I'm considering mounting one like this:

And no, I don' grow the nauticalyx - too big and humidity-loving for my space.....
Hey I like those bark mounted ones...wonder if just any strep can be mounted like that???
Thansk for the info on the streps guess I will do some more research.
I really like them.Course I like everything if it blooms..lol
MsC
some would do better than others. I just sent links to some candidates to a friend who has a greenhouse:

http://gesneriads.ca/strep184.htm
http://gesneriads.ca/strep117.htm
http://gesneriads.ca/strep110.htm
thing is, they do have to be watered regularly and kept humid...... how I'd manage that, I dunno... (though I do have orchids on mounts, lol)
more convention photos at gesneriads.ca !
I love that more gessie people are posting photos on the web.

Well maybe you could place them in poen faced 10 gal aquariums stood up lengthwise ..I'd thing that would give you some extra humidity...they could then be stacked too. Of course I'll never win any ribbons for home decorating...lol
I'm sure you will find a way..
MsC
that might work... or a waterfall on a timer, LOL. I wish I had the room .....
Goodness.. it looks like I can't type or spell up there...lol ( poen= open)
Ah, I really like the idea of a waterfall but nix on the timer???
Trust me her Ki~ more room means more stuff~ not always a good thing...think of having to move it.:)
I loved all the pics. I have one similar to the variegated that won best foliage and I have to admit that the leaves are amazing with the coloring.
