Gladiolus

Lakebay, WA

Do I need to pull my gladiolus corms out of the ground in the fall or is it ok to leave them in? (Lakebay is zone 8.) I just found a bag of them that I didn't plant this year LOL and I don't know if I should stick them in the ground now (enough growing season left?) and then pull them in November or leave them in the ground or just wait for spring to plant them.

I also have dahlias in the ground and in BIG pots as well. Don't know if I should leave all of them in the ground or at least pull the ones in the pots in November/December.

Thanks!

Marionslaten, I just plunked in my own late bag of glads last week and succession planted them last year well into July, so I think they'll be fine.
Regarding storage: I've both dug and left glads in the ground; some come back, some don't; all have babies that come up by the dozens! We get quite a few freezes and copious amounts of rain out here though, so depending on your winter weather you might be okay.

Ditto on the dahlia tubers. Mine would be mush if I left them in over winter- too wet, although some clumps have made it okay. You'll have healthier plants if you dig them at least every two-three years. If you aren't that fussy about them, then just mulch well ( fern fronds or straw work well) and uncover in late Spring.

Yep, listen to Annie (Poochella).

Thanks for the advice Pooch! I think I'll leave the glads in the ground then, cheap and easy to replace. The dahlias I'll dig up. Less of them planted so less work for my DH who won't let me touch the dahlias! It's so nice though. I have several vases on my counter and near my computer desk and he keeps them filled with fresh flowers for me :-)
