Unwelcome visitor

Yesterday evening, my watch cat put out an alert and look what I found on the patio. Ugh. Snakes don't have lots of friends around here. This was a copperhead.
I had purchased a couple of Anigozanthos (kangaroo paws) yesterday at the flea and had just set the pots out RIGHT THERE. Wondered if I bought him home but after thoroughly and carefully inspecting the plants and pots I decided not. I can't believe I hadn't seen him.

Yikes! Glad you saw him before he saw you.

That is thanks to the cat police. Wouldn't be without them!
Hey Kristi, did the seeds make it?

pod, your photo of your magnificent friend of the feline persuasion shows you have leaves in the yard. that's where the copperheads usually hang out (you probably knew that). they're not particularly aggressive, and if they're disturbed enough they'll move (as in you could dance around hitting the ground with sticks a lot, or run remote control cars in the yard for a while) but remember -- there are most likely a lot of mice you don't have because you had the snake. I've also heard they don't like to go over ropes. How you use that info is entirely up to you. Good luck with it, and I for one don't blame you for getting rid of it.

I think Kitty deserves a nice big treat!!!!!

The kitty picture was last December, believe me I do mow, compost and mulch leaves. We are in a rural area in the middle of woods. Just aren't gonna get around a few snakes. The cat/dog collection doesn't usually let them get this close. It doesn't pay to get overconfident tho, this was just a reminder. Oddly enough I know more folks who have been bit by this type of snake. They are good camo with the leaves, pinestraw and red dirt.

A nice big treat and a hug!

Hi Pod! They sure did! Thank you so much! I've already planted them in little pots. How about yours?

Unfortunately, hadn't check the mail lately. I need to do that and get them in the dirt. Would you believe DG keeps me distracted. I am glad to hear they arrived. Thanks much...

Well, no....I just can't understand being distracted by this cool website. My DH is going to cut off DSL soon if I keep it up! LOL

WHAT! No more plant porn?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

hey! hey! hey! some things just aren't funny. No more plant porn! What would be the purpose, then?

Yes, ladies, pity me! At least I can play while I'm at work. Well, some addictions just can't be broken and this is one of them. If I have to go out and buy a laptop I'll be here, working by the light of the moon in the shed. Actually, that sounds kind nice. I could fix the place up, make a comfy chair, play some good music. Wow, I'm liking this idea.

EEEEEEEEEEEK!!! That sure looks like it can camo itself into it's surroundings! Am glad we don't see those down here but we do get plenty of rattlesnakes...big 'uns too! Am glad you weren't harmed by it. Much as I enjoy nature...I don't like poisonous snakes in my yard.

~Cat, I will 2nd that! I had gotten complacent and would trot out after dark in sandals, slides, whatever. I do know better and now am reminded. Like your name! pod
