Boo Hoo! This was a cutting of a very fragrant white that Margo (in Myrtle Beach, SC) sent me. She's done great and flushed once, but now the little baby buds start and then seem to turn light brown and drop. I guess it's just too hot and humid here. Any suggestions or do I just have to wait till fall to see more blooms? I can't believe how bushy she is! She's huge!

Too hot to bloom!
I have been having some larger buds cook in the heat. The Calyx actually turns a different color and then the bud falls off. Today I'm moving my potted brugs to more shade. If she is in the ground, you could try using some of the white remay cloth to shade her a bit during the heat of the day or just wait until fall to get some great flushes from her. This does seem like a rough year for brugs for those of us who live in places with lots of heat, too much or too little rain, wind, and bugs and worms that are not usually a big problem. The good thing about this is that we are learning what to do to make things better. I'll be looking forward to seeing some gorgeous pictures of your brug when her first flush is a "knock you off your feet" sight in your yard..... and I'm sure she will do that.
Brugie,
What's white remay cloth? I moved my patio table closer to that brug so it has been getting shaded 3/4 of the time by the patio umbrella. So do you think that cloth would make a difference? I've even resorted to using 2 beach umbrellas to cover 2 other brugs. At least it's colorful! LOL.

Remay is a cloth that is used in gardening to extend the growing season or to keep bugs off the crop. It has some shading ability and tends to reflect the sun somewhat. I use it to keep my tomatoes from sunburning. Gardens Alive is one place you can buy it. It's very light weight, allows light and water through.
Oh Barbara! You are such a good brug Mom. LOL. That brug is so big and so green and so healthy looking. I can just picture it in full bloom. I hope it holds its buds soon for you! Isn't there a tomato product available to help tomatoes hold their fruit? I wonder if it would help brugs with blooms.
Brugie, thanks for the info. I checked it out and it seems like it might work well.
Kell, I'm going to check that out about tomatoes. Hmmm.
Thanks ya'll

There is a product for tomatoes called Bloom Set. I have my doubts it would do anything for brug blooms. It is used to help tomato blooms set fruit.
Well I'll get some and use it on my 'maters! Thanks!
