Here's the momma of the alien

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

This is momma "Pink Floyd". See........all her other babies are fine. Just the one alien baby.

Please ignore the blue pool float you see through the branches.

Looks like a big heathly brug, Barbara.

Had you sprayed it with Messenger?

This is 'Pink Floyd' or a seedling? Just curious - I've never seen 'Pink Floyd' in person, but it doesn't look like any pics of 'PF' I've ever seen. Sorry! Though, if you are in an area that hot, it could be that temps are distorting the form of the flowers (that's fairly common).

See the link for googled 'Pink Floyd'...

Well, crud. I couldn't get the link to work for some reason. Basically I google brugmansia + "pink floyd" and then clicked 'images'.

Carter,
You may be right. This was a cutting that was given to me last fall and marked "Pink Floyd". It could be that it was mismarked so I will be very careful offering cuttings to anyone. Or.......it could be the heat. We've stayed in the low to mid 90's and only drop to mid 70's at night and the humdity is very high (ALWAYS!) and we haven't had a drop of rain for about 7 weeks. So who knows what's really going on. As I remember, the first flush was a little deeper pink, but she doesn't look like the photos that I googled.

I've also sprayed twice with Messenger and getting ready for a 3rd round.

I just love all brugs and don't really mind if I get them misnamed. But I will be careful with cuttings.

Here ya go Barb. Maybe this will help. Compare the calyx.

Vee,
I checked those photos and I'm not sure I see any difference in the calyx of each. Mine is certainly paler (could be hot weather) and the skirt doesn't seem to flare as much even when fully open. Hmmm. I just took this photo so the blooms aren't open as far as they were earlier this AM.

Now ya'll really have me going. Now I want to know the name. Maybe I was better off not knowing. LOL!

V, help me to understand the differences in what I'm seeing. I was able to pull both pics up side by side and I'm still confused.

Here are a few differences I see:

In PF pics the flower hangs pendant (straight down). Your flowers arch out then down.

The PF calyx covers the top of the corolla (flower tube). Your flower's corolla is extended well passed the calyx.

PF seems to generally have a narrower corolla that is fairly even in width (girth) with a flair at the bottom. Your flower has more of a bell shape (more suaveolens-type) where the corolla itself flairs from top to bottom.

Thanks, Carter, so much. Now I see all you're talking about. Any idea what this might be?

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

There are several common suav-type pinks out there. Can you take a pic of a fully open bloom (side view and maybe face)? That might help.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Much better pic of your calyxes Barb. It was hard to tell from your others.
It would be best if you not try to photo id the one you are growing. Just call it "unknown". So many mistakes are made thru photo id's. Too many mistakes are made because there are differences not only in flower shapes and sizes, the way they hang, calyx length and calyx split differences, but there's also differences in the corolla edges, length of flower points, leaf shapes and textures, growth habits. For evidence of id screw ups just visit ebay once in awhile and see the mislabled Mayas that are now called Peaches & Cream, and all the old insignis pinks that have been misidentified as Frosty Pink, Dr. Seuss and Charles Grimaldi confusion, Misidentified i. Corals, Jamaica Yellow (shredded mutants common) that is sold as Shredded yellow, etc etc
It's a jungle out there! lol!
Anyway ... sorry that yours has to be one of confusion .... but it is so pretty, that's for sure.

ps.... and don't feel bad about what has happened to you. These things come with the brug territory. We've all been thru it in one way or another. That's how we learn. :)

Thanks Vee,
I guess wrong IDs can happen frequently with brugs. I obtained this cutting from an old DGer. Oh well! Like I said, I really don't mind what the name is, but I hate giving other people misinformation.

Carter, I think I'll just enjoy her and not worry about IDing, but thanks anyway.

Whew! There's so much to learn about these puppies!
I think I'll leave it to all you pros for the real details.

You guys are the best!

No problem. That's best. If you enjoy it, it doesn't need a specific id. ;)
