a few pics of a couple of hummers bathing.

Great pix Viv. That hummer looks pretty waterlogged!
Wow, Viv!
You do such a nice job of capturing those magic moments in the garden! Thanks for sharing these great shots.
I tried that a few times but I'm kind of a messy gardener & the camera usually gets wet or covered with soil or something. LOVE the racoons. Especially since they are in a tree where they belong and not in someone's pond fishing for koi!
Very great shots of the happy little hummer, Vizz. We have plenty of habitat for the pileated WPs too and when one flies over I always think an eagle is landing- they're so much larger than your average bird.
I love the racoons too, they are cute no matter if they kill fish or become pesky.
Lovely shots! :-)
Cute Marion! A pack of masked marauders. Is that in a pool, or a tarp with water held in? I can't quite tell in what they are frolicking but it looks like they're having good fun.
So cute...

Pixy - you are so lucky to have seen a Tanager! They are amazing & I used to have them visit my pond but then a neighbor had a HUGE and gorgeous pond/stream/waterfall put in her yard (8 feet deep/huge koi/professionally done) and now she sees tanagers but I don't. Oh well - it's a good thing that she's such a close friend!
Pooch, the tarp was over a hot tub. The hard pad that was normally over it had broken under the weight of snow the year before that. It had been raining, water had pushed the tarp down, and the family of raccoons that had lived under our deck for a few months decided it was their own personal spa :)
They are cute but mean as heck. We lost 2 cats to attacks and their poo supposedly has bacteria in it that is very bad should the elderly or young children come into contact with it.
That was a leased house and no more hot tub at the house we own. I don't miss it. Less neighbors stopping over unexpectedly with swim suit and towel lol!
Pixy I think you would have the PWP in your area, with all the large conifers over there. Put up a log feeder and I bet you would attrack some.. the Western Tanager is such a pretty bird,, bright colors. I saw a couple earlier this spring.. the pic is not a good one but the only one I could get.

Pretty Viv! We get the rare tanager out here too but only for a brief time before they move on.
Ah marionslaten, the covered hottub is a perfect playground for the visiting racoons. We used to live at a house with an inground pool. The hour we arrived to move in, two neighbor kids were at our front door with towels in hand " Can we swim?" Can you believe that? They practically lived at our house every summer which was fun for them. No more pool maintenance for me: I couldn't wait to move out. At least a hottub is a more manageable size, but still a lot of work.
I'm surprised we dont have the pileated woodpeckers, too. I think there are just better choices for them around here with all the wooded areas of Ft. Lewis close at hand. But i'll try the log feeder idea. I used to have one, but the nuthatches and small woodpeckers and flickers cleaned it out of suet almost daily. Pileateds would have a lot of competition around here.
