How Can People Be So Mean.....wildlife

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

There was a great thread on the problems of people not being a good steward over their pets.

My thread I guess could be in another forum....but since I know you are animal lovers I just had to post!

I was on my way to church when we saw a deer in our neighborhood, much of which is still grassy fields with tiny mequite trees. This doe was laying on a patch of freshly mowed grass near a ditch line. We stopped to watch her laying down but she was very nervous. I rolled down the window (she was probably 30 feet away) and she tried to get up to run. We saw that she couldn't stand and just flailed her legs. We called the local police because we didn't know what to do. They came out and the officer had to get a long gun from her trunk. I said, "They are going to kill her!?" Sad but true. Someone had hit the deer in the rear and she couldn't use her back legs now. She looked so peaceful laying in the field and yet so frightened of the cars stopped to watch her.

The officer said even the Texas Dept. of Game and Wildlife wouldn't come out for such an event and they'd just have to put her down.

I don't have a problem with people hunting. But it is pretty rude to hit an animal in a 20 MPH RESIDENTIAL ZONE. Whomever it was didn't stick around. Just makes me so sad....
