Hi everyone! I am having difficulties in identifying my new friend. Does anyone here have any thoughts? Appreciate any input.
Thanks so much,

Trouble Identifying
Anita, I'm too new at this to try to help, but, WOW!

wait, I've got a good book on Eastern butterflies, so I'm going to make an educated guess, but please don't let me stop any of the experts from stating facts here. I'm just trying to learn. I had it narrowed down to Question Mark or Eastern Comma. I'm going to go with Question Mark because of the 4 spots (rather than 3) just above the dark part of the wing.

Hey Gram! I think you may be right. Hard to tell since both are so similar. Thanks. At least I have it narrowed down. It was driving me crazy!
very good quess Gram but I think it is the Comma. Look at the dark shaded area on the bottom half of the wing, now go up to the top half of the bottom wing. See the spots??? That is the difference I am seeing in the pics of my books. The Questionmark is totally shaded on the bottom wing in my pic but I could be wrong. I go at this just as you all do going through books. If we could get a shot of the under side of the wing that would decide for sure which one it is.
I go with Question Mark !!! Here is one link to a comparison.

Now that's really cool. And my dh says I'm not observant :-) Either way, it's a beauty.
What an excellent link Linthicum! I agree with you. Thank you everyone!
Tell Papa that I'm impressed with you Gram!
Ohhh my, Anita ..
A wonderful shot of the Question Mark!!
(And it's much appreciated, of your retention of some of the dimensional size during the upload to DG, too).
Like to mention yet another website to you guys .. that ya may find most beneficial to you/your area. The fact that you can choose the option to 'compare' photos of two butterflies side-by-side, is truly a most fantastic feature that's been added!

Thanks, Magpye, I bookmarked. Haven't seen too many in my garden yet, but I am seeing more flying around. Need more quiet time to sit and observe.
Thanks Magpye -I've bookmarked the site as well. It was the first time I've ever seen this one in my garden. I found it on the Mexican Sunflower, which I had never grown before.
That Massachusetts Butterfly Club site is really Great! I love the comparison feature. Really is helpful to determine the differences (for these old eyes)! Thanks, mags
