newbie pic - id help??

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I've been working on a butterfly/hummingbird garden...some of you know. Today I actually spotted a butterfly AND had my camera. Not the best with the camera either, but I'm practicing. Got out the butterfly book...still stumped. I could guess, but I could be way off base. I have no experience at all. So if the pics are good enough, can you all help? I tried to blow up to get details, but left the wide shots to see the size and keep the clarity. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. A grandma with a bug in her garden...big deal LOL.

Gram looks like a Pearly Crescentspot but not positive as I can't see enough of the detail of its markings

Thanks, Donna. That does look like it. I know the pics aren't good enough for a positive id. I'll probably see it again and I'll know what to look for. I blew this one up a little more and compared to my book.

pay attention to the markings on the outer wings will probably be the easiest way to ID. There are several kinds of crescentspots and they look similar. There are also some checkeredspots and fritillarys that look like the crescentspots
