Rylaff;
Beautiful lilie. I think I will have to spend a little extra next spring. and order more from TWLs Got all my white ones free. The rest I took a chance and bought from Lowes, They are multiplying just fine and I love the colors, Just don't have any yellows or that beautiful blue.
May have to take out some of the white to make room hee hee.
The white out number the rest.

Lovely lovely lovely. your falls resemble mine. And your fishies are so pretty.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Uh... NOT BORING!!! Y'all have some great pictures there. I'm in the midst of setting a small one up. Think good thoughts!

Hornick, IA(Zone 4b)

Brigidlily; I really don't need more pond. I do however want to add a small stream, that will help filter the water better. I have a small pond above the main one where I pump the water to and it then flows back to the main one. I plan to go beyond the upper pond another 25 or 30'.
I have a small falls filter for that already. I'm just wating till after I get caught up with some of the other things I had to let sit. while work took all my time and energy. Now that I'm retired for the third time. I don't get in any hurry. This will all be in the last 39 feet behind the patio and the property line and behind the Garage. I'm making that our private little hide-away.
Take some pics, Before an after. later. Going to visit a daughter in Ohio before we start that project. Just wish I had it done already. I can't get the skid loader back there now. Well not impossible. Have to give it some thought though, like some schrubbery, may need to come out. Hummmmmmmm, don't sound too bad. Need to move or dig out a Kiwi vine anyway. it's too close to the pond. Their leaves don't do my Koi any good. I almost lost all my large ones in the upper pond. It was a struggle but saved four of the five that were floating almost belly up. I now make sure that no limb / or vine gets in the pond.
Got-to go supper is ready.

Along with what I'm doing in the other gardening areas, I'm taking pics as I go. And as soon as my son corrects what he did when he fixed my computer, I'll be able to post some. Very insecure, though, and wonder if everyone else on the entire site will chime in with "how could you?!?!?!" (laughing at myself)

And Russ, your pond sounds divine. Mine is a liner the former owners left by the side fence. I've always wanted a pond, and I will not let that go to waste. I'm glad I have some aquarium experience, but this will be a whole 'nother ball game, I'm sure.

Now, if the Astros will just start playing another one...

Editing as I just remembered: yesterday I "accidentally" bought two water lilies from HD. They were on sale, so I figured it would be good practice. The pond is in full sun, and that REALLY means something down here. Should I set up an umbrella for shade until I can get some plants around it? Or just let nature take its course? Any thoughts?

Brigidlily;
Water lily From HD. If it has very little growth pot it. set it in shallow water. untill sufficient growth appears. Then continualy move to deeper water . Here I start out with about two inches of water over the leaves. then work down to 18- 24" deep. I am not sure of zone 8.
I do know though that Texas Water Lilies has some really nice plants.
I got 6 lotus tubers from there. They seem to be doing good for zone 4.
I have a tub floating in an island i made. They are standing about a foot tall now. I am sure that in zone 8 the would be at least five foot tall.
I have some lilies left over from dividing a big mass of tangled roots and tubers. after the Koi had fun dumping pots and every thing settled in one spot and grew together. I am giveing them to friends and some DGers that we can visit we are going out to Ohio to visit a daughter. and on the way back making a swing through MI. to drop some off and trade for some other seeds. If I knew they would ship well in this heat I would send you one or two.

(Zone 9a)

Your ponds are beautiful.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks, randbponder, I appreciate it. But I have a comparatively tiny pond, and if what I got survives, it might be plenty. I appreciate the advice about depth, though. I'll check it this afternoon. Both of the plants had 5-6 leaves on stems that were about 6" high. One had a couple of funky ones, and I cut those off. The color looked good and they seemed strong. We'll see!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

UPDATE! I checked the lilies last night and thought... I didn't realize they were that tall... then went out this morning and one of them is on the surface already! That was better than coffee!!!!! I'll be able to put Rita and Jimmy (the fish in my office tank) in there before you know it!

Hornick, IA(Zone 4b)

Brigid;
Now you know some pond people have had to change the names of their fish. Like Jimmy to Jean and Pixy to Pete ((*-*)) Just had to say that. I'm always trying to catch someone off guard and tease . I always like a good laugh. Even if it is on me.
Glad to hear your lilies are going great guns.
Mine are still blooming but not as many as 3 weeks ago. Only five blooms in whole pond.
Whoops--- Just retrived neighbors dogs out my pond and took them down town to his yard. When it gets hot like this they like to get out and investigate every pond they can find. We are good friends, so what can a person say. Oh well happy ponding to you Thanks for sharing your story on the lily

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL, rand. I guess I can change Jimmy to Jimmie if I have to, but Rita? Rhett, I guess. Don't want to get them too confused...

Hornick, IA(Zone 4b)

I think if we let them figure it out, every thing will workout!

Yeah, since they've been doing it right for centuries, I guess maybe we should give them a pond and leave them alone. I brought containers to take them home today. I set up a table and umbrella right at the side of the pond to hopefully mitigate the temperature. Y'all keep your fingers and fins crossed for me.

Just noticed how "finger" starts out as "fin"... coincidence? :p

Well, Jimmy and Rita took to the pond like... a fish to water. I was afraid the temperature difference might bother them, but though they were a little stunned by suddenly being in an "ocean" they seem fine. I've ordered a very few more plants. Time will tell! My son did re-fix the computer, so I'll get some photos soon.

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Rylaff,
lovely pictures, that blue lily is STUNNING! Looks exactly like a picture I have as a wallpaper on my computer. I thought it was enhanced, but after seeing your picture, I know that they really do look like that! Wonderful! :~)
