Blue Sage

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I have 2 sage plants, both with tiny blue flowers. The stems are a whitish color almost. It is really pretty!!!!

Looked at them the other day and one had many dead spots in it? It was doing great....not sure what the problem is. Both have the same soaker hose watering system on a timer....

Not even sure the variety name! Tried to look it up in plant files but "sage" brings up 400 some matches!

Do you have any tips on keeping sage well? Pruning at all? Watering needs? Etc.

See if this is what you have:

I have two of these plants and the stems are green and black - a beautiful plant for sure!

Nope, similar. I have single blue flowers just at the tips of each stem....no long stalk of flowers.

There are a lot of varieties of sage, but the basic requirements are lots of sun, well drained soil, and most sages are drought tolerant. Cuttings can be taken for propagation but alot of them will reseed. You can dead head to prevent that, or at least help. They can be pruned just about any time, I believe, but in the spring is always good, and again after they've bloomed and gotten gangly. My mantra...Pruning stimulates growth!
