Have You Used The Wick

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Have any of you used the wick method to start leaves? I thought I might try it. Any info. on how it worked for you would be appreciated.

I would be concerned that wicking might keep the potting mix too wet for happy leaves, since there aren't many roots right away to take up water... I water my leaf cups so they are just barely moist, then put a vented lid over them to hold in a little extra humidity around the plants. I know Nanna has been using moist capillary matting under her leaf pot with great success, but I'm not sure the matting keeps the mix as wet as a wick might.

I would try it, but just keep an eye on the leaves... If they start to look a little limp despite being moist, then they might be too wet.

I've been having good luck lately starting smaller leaves in a 6 inch deli salad container, holes in top & bottom for ventillation & watering.

Thanks

Maybe I should just stick with what has worked for me. I might try it with a leaf that is from one of the NOID.

I would think that you would have to have to potting mix very heavy on the perlite side. I also think with my set up wicking leaves would keep them too wet.

That said: at the March meeting of the AV club Many brought mommy and plantlets to be seperated and shared and they were wicked.
