Potting a cutting

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

I have recently rooted a cutting I rec'd from a DG member. It is one cutting and doing well. Now I need to pot it up. Will this fill out (in time)in a pot or do you need mulitple cuttings to make a "full" look?

It will fill out in time, but that time could be long. My monster H.Compacta was a single cutting 12 years ago. I try to start my plants with two cuttings, but if I can't, then I'll take a cutting as soon as there's enough growth, root it and pop it back into the pot to help fill it up sooner.

Thank you. IT is rather long (about 2 ft) I could cut it and root some more right?

Yes, that is the best way to fill your pot. Just wait until you can take cuttings and root them to add to a bigger pot in the future. The plant will fill out some alone, but does take forever.
The main thing to remember when you first pot up your rooted cutting is not to put it in too big of a pot. I made that mistake over & over until I learned to keep things small around the roots until they get well established. If the plant has a long vine and you want to put it into something decorative. etc, just set the small pot into the larger one with a little perilite or stones under it. However, you must not forget about it, as little pots need water often. That is why I try to group them together in a tray or something so I don't forget them.

Sounds good. Thanks for info. I will need to find something to prop it up as it will most likely be top heavy in a small pot.
Thank you Marcy
