Hi ves522!
I was just up that way -- staying in Eau Claire and doing some research in Bloomer, Tilden, Chippewa Falls and New Auburn. Lovely area, and I was there before it got too hot! :-)
I'm brand new myself, but as I stand here on the Welcome Mat with you, I guess I can say "Welcome" too!

Hi Susannah! I wasn't expecting any messages and was just now looking for something else. If you ever get up this way again give me a holler if you'd like to meet or d-mail me if you'd like to chat. I look in on Tx. gardening every once in awhile. Other areas are fascinating. Gives a person a new perspective outside their own little world.
Hope your weather is nice!!
Hi all. Vicki you are a busy person. You must have a laptop hey? lol just kidding.
Susannah Where about in the dallas fort worth area. I'm from Wautauga. I can't remember how to spell it. I've been in WI since May 28, 1966. at the ripe old age of 10.
Went to elementary school at North Richland Hills. I miss the gardenias fom down there. Mom had 3 in the front and 5 in the back. Oh to smell those again.
Hi Ves522! I'm new, too. I'm in a suburb of Chicago, so it's good to see another "northern" gardener up here. Someone else that has to deal with snow, LOL! See you around!
~Kristy
Hello Kristy My Dh spent his first 12 yrs. in Chicago. I think he does miss it a bit. There's a lot of us from up here on DG. Just bop around and talk to anyone. Everybody is pretty friendly. I find it a lot of fun. Yes snow but not so much it seems like. Do you grow anything specific? I grow vegies, annuals and perennials. I'm not to fussy. No big favs. Some I just like a little more than others. Talk anytime you like or dmail me to chat. I enjoy finding out what others do.
~~Vicki~~~
Hi Vicki,
Yeah, we haven't (knock on wood) had too much snow the past few years, have we? Well, now that I said that, we'll get a blizzard, lol! The cold is worse than the snow, though. But it's been so hot here, lately, I'm actually looking forward to winter. (I'm never happy, am I? LOL!) I grow mostly irises, but other perennials, as well. And a few annuals thrown in the mix. No veggies, but the critters like to eat our plants. (Well, mostly Mom's, cause most of mine are poisonous, hehe.) See ya around!
~Kristy
I have an iris here That is over 30 yrs. old.It was here when we moved here. I don't know the name and i've never looked. It's purple brown and white and very fragrant. I do need to divide them if you are interested. I threw out a lot last year. They seem to be very healthy and grow good I'll have to start looking for them to see what there name is.
~~~vicki
Kristy that was easy to find . It's called lantana. Go into plant files click unto iris and it is actually the first picture.
Ves533 Welcome from Victoria Harbour, Ontario Canada...I've great friends in Clear Lake.....
Bettypauze I should know where Clear Lake is but can't place it. Where's Victoria Harbor? I'm not familiar with Canada at all. Sure am glad my DM didn't name me Victoria. That's way to formal for me. Just an odd thought.Anyway glad to met you Bettypauze.
Hi Ves522 - if I remember correctly, when we drove it was approx 100 miles north of St.Paul...beautiful country...went to the big craft show - think they call it Little Falls - biggest I've ever seen...purchased loads/loads..next time I flew and wasn't able to bring him so many treasures...
Victoria Harbour is approx 100 miles north of Toronto..cottage country...I travel daily (100 miles one way) to work...thank goodness what I do as a consultant doesn't take up my entire day so I get to rest and enjoy this site and meet such wonderful people...all the best
Well Bettypauze I need to stop complaining about driving 15 miles to get anything. I can't imagine 100.
I haven't heard of that craft show. I tend to stay away from that type of stuff. To tempting to spend money. I'd rather spend it on garden stuff. I do craft things myself so I'm one that says "I can do that" Poor crafters hard way to make a living.
I just spent several weeks digging out ditch lily roots,glass and metal. I was thinking of doing a mosiac. I think I just got an idea of what to do. Maybe cover a birdhouse. More thinking to do.
My brother lives north of White Bear if I remember I'll ask him about Little Falls.
Have a nice day~~~~~
Ves522...yup..know the feeling..I do a lot of teaching 'make and take' workshops...near to Christmas I work on cutting projects,designing them and then set up dates...the projects are usually outstanding and are gearing for individuals who perhaps do limited crafts and or/have never done much in the line of painting..usually have about 15 to 20 per class..originally when my husband passed away I had a few relatives come for a day of get together and then they were so amazed at each project I had chosen that they in turn want to bring a friend or two..now its crazy but I enjoy....last Christmas I must have cut about 500 sleighs..purchased material of old world Santa's and tough them a technique when made the background look like winter conditions...they applied their santa's which were carefully cut out and voila..a work of art +++ sparkles/sparkles...so now I'm on the lookout for an idea for this years project...so unless my mind starts creating..I'll be hitting the fall craft shows for ideas...it's now been 15 years since my first winter class and now they are looking for halloween workshops...hard when I have to travel so far to work..but I always seem to make the deadline...
Little Falls I believe has more than 1500 vendors...the entire town closes up for it...I think it might be shortly ...you would be amazed..it really is work the trip...must be..I used to come from Canada for it....
Nice gabbing..talk later
Hi bettypauze, That's really interesting. I've been off line that's why no reply sooner. Have to learn how to type all over again. Amazing how much you can forget in a week. They must be really nice projects if people have been coming for years. I do love crafts and tried selling. But it seems if I like it it does not sell. So now I do a few things for myself and for gifts.
Last xmas I painted a lot of birdhouses and stars for my trees. I put up 3 small trees in my livingroom. Also snowmen. Wish I had taken pictures it turned out so nice.
I've never gone to a craft show that big. It must be amazing and take days to see everything.
I work part-time selling a party product. So that gives me lots of time to garden.Which was very necessary this summer. I had time to keep everything watered. I lost more stuff after things were planted than during the drought. I was really lucky! I have a vegie garden , annuals and perennials. Love the annuals then I can keep trying new things. Same with the vegies.
Talk later I have a lot of catching up to do!
Hello and welcome, I did the same as you, I watched for a while and I had just gotten laid off so I didn`t want to say, Honey can I get a membership to this garden website. He knew I was so depressed and thought it would cheer me up and now I can`t stop typing and reading. There is something for everyone, everywhere. Good people too. If you ever have a prayer request, these people get the job done here @ dg prayer request forum. Dawn
Hi hellnzn11~~~You're right this is a fun place. Friendly and informative. There's plenty of experts to help us and people with lots of life experiences. What's better than that?
