These are a few of my hybrid hibiscus seedlings, all told there is about 100 now...and more new ones sprouting all the time. I can't wait to see what I get this time around. Most will be junk, but 3 or 4 should be nice ones.

Even the junk ones should be nice. Any hibiscus that blooms is nice.

Eclipse,

Hybrid seedlings? I am rather new to this, Please explain the hybrid. You started from seeds? Tell me more.

I started some from seed, not hybrid. I ordered the seed from ParKSeed, I have them planted in my garden and most are about 1' tall. These are of coarse hardy hibiscus.

wow Kyle where do you have the room to grow them all until they bloom?? Hope you get some really nice ones

What fun! I can't wait to see what you get.

MyRee, hybrid means two varieties cross pollinated and then set seed. I crossed many different colors and kinds together and planted the seeds. Thats how new colors and kinds are created. These are the seedlings.Since tropical hibiscus are so diverse in their backgrounds you never know what kind of colors will show up, unlike the seeds saved on the hardy types, they tend to breed true to parent color.

I see Kyle, thanks for the info. Marie

Pretty little babies, Kyle ... and very healthy ... and plenty of space. Ohh! How I need that.
Are raised from your own seeds? Seeing the pic I guess they still need a year or so to bloom. Mine need to get more than a meter high (3') to start to bloom. In two or three days there will be 2 new seedlings blooming in my balcony.
Attached are some seeds I raised a week ago or so.

Good luck.

Carlos, these are seeds I crossed. I used many new dwarf types so they may bloom before they get 3 ft tall. Yours are really nice, as I get other varieties my crosses will improve. I need tags to mark all my crosses from here on out.

Carlos, Is that coir you are using to start those babies? It looks perfect for starting seeds.

No, ardesia. It's peat moss. I used to mix it with perlite but it's impossible to find perlite in Belgium.

It looks like Belgium peat moss is a lot better than what we get in the states.
