plumeria J L pink pansy

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Did anyone else here other than me happen to buy this particular plumie from someone on ebay last year only to find out that it wasnt even close to being anything pink let alone J L pink pansy??

I dont know if I can or should mention the sellers name on here. But back in October of last year I bought a very nice almost 4ft tall cutting of what was suppose to be J L pink pansy off of ebay.

It had already bloomed and had a three way tip. I potted it and have waited patiently all spring for it to bloom and last week it finally did. Boy was I disappointed? It has turned out to be a rainbow plumie which I wanted one of anyway but I paid a rather high price for it.

Rainbows sell on ebay every day for under $20 with a lot selling for $10 and under. I contacted the seller and let him know about this and asked what he might be willing to do about it since I think he knowingly sold me something other thatn what he was advertising.

His response was that he had no reason to beleive I was telling a lie about it and he'd send me a replacement plant which would be ther eal JL pink pansy. So far no replacement plant and I havent eaerd a word from the seller.

I left him positive feedback for what I thought was the real thing but am seriously considering going back and posting something neutral about my experience.

I should have known something was going on when I kept seeing him post one JL pink pansy auction after another and listing each one as being the last one for the season. I mean come on,how many last ones can you have of something??!!!

After 6 auctions for this plant and each one supposedly being the last one for the season I really should have smelled a skink long before now!!

So now i'm just kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place and not sure of what if anything to do about this. I mean at this point I cant really make him give me a new plant to replace the wrongly advertised one.

Any thoughts??

Are we "allowed" to list ebayers who in our opinion are reputable?
As well as those who we feel are not?

Just wondering....

Yes, as with anything expensive, the motto "Buyer Beware" applies to plumerias too. There are good and bad sellers of plumerias on eBay. It is hard to know whom to trust unless you ask other collectors and check feedback. Sometimes, only a few bucks is lost, but if I am going to shell out a lot of money for a plumeria, then I'm only going to buy from the most reputable proven sources. I've posted my eBay trusted list here before. I'll have to do a search to find that thread.

My plant was purchased from someone who's user name is mantisbee. He is out of Florida and his name is Anthony. That's all I know.
I do know that if I havent received a replacement or a refund by Monday,i'll call the phone number that he supplied me with just to see if it is an actual working number and then i'll go back and post neutral or negative feedback regarding my experience with him.

Dave67 after viewing your auction I know I got sucker punched on mine!! I paid $36 for the plant and then had to pay S & H extra!! And it wasnt even the real thing!!

dmichael619,
If your plant was almost 4 ft tall and true to the variety, it probably would have been worth it in my opinion. My cutting was only 18 inches tall with 3 branches. It was packed so well that it arrived with the inflo intact and one flower open when I opened the box....

Mantisbee is known well-known in the plumeria community as being untrustworthy and a bad seller. His name has been mentioned before as one to stay away from. He's had 11 negatives in the last 12 months. I think he is from Los Angeles and not Florida. It's too bad that you didn't see this warning about him before you bid on his plant: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/553858/

Hes a schiester supreme and extremely rude too. :^P

Well I havent even tried the phone number that he gave me. It's probably just a number that he pulled out of the airanyway.

The experience with him is the second time i've been burned on ebay and i've learned to check feedback profiles now before buying from someone. Something I never did before.

I'd still love to have pink pansy and will eventually get around to tracking one down, just got way too much going on right now with work and trying to maintain 3 greenhouses.

Dmichael, sometimes even feedback doesn't tell the whole story when it comes to plumerias because you can received a plumeria stick in the mail, but it may take a year or more to bloom for you, and if you were sent something other than what you paid for, it is too late to leave negative feedback. Also, it sometimes takes a while to find out that you've gotten an unhealthy plumeria cutting, and by then, you've already left positive feedback. So checking feedback is good, but just remember that it may not reveal some problems. I have purchased plumeria cuttings from unknown sources if it only cost me $1-$3 per cutting and took a chance, but for cuttings over that amount, I've only purchased from reputable proven sources. I've actually learned my lesson not to buy from unknown sources as I got a borer beetle in the box with one purchase of cheap cuttings. That won't happen to me again.

For Pink Pansy, I recommend HawaiiSandy on eBay, ncasselberryfla on eBay, Florida Colors web site, or Brad'sBudsnandBlooms web site.

Thanks for the info guys/gals! I'll definately check out the website. I still want JLPP but things are a bit hectic rightnow with work and trying to maintain these gh's .

My job is just about to stress me all the way out!!!! And now having 3 gh's to take care of has just added that much more to my plate. The gh's are not for selling plants, they house my own personal plant collection which for some reason just doesnt seem to be getting any smaller!!

The plants have grown so huge already this season. I was just out trimming stuff in the tropical house a while ago so i'd have space to walk. The hoyas in the hoya house could use a bit of pruning but most of them are a putting on buds right now and I hate to chop on them.

Good thing about the cacti house is the fact that they dont branch, well they do but not like other types of plants and there is always plenty of space to do what I need to do in there.

I think on ebay after leving feedback you can go in and post one response or reply. After that no more and I dont know if there is a time limit on doing that or not. I've thought about going back and posting something VERY negative about my experience with this A@# Hole but then all he'd do is go and try to smear my reputation and my feedback profile is great so I dont want ot do anything to mess that up.

I feel your pain;-)

Well I broke down and bid on another JLPP on ebay. I have been very reluctant to do so since my experience with mantisbee. I have to say the plant this idiot sentme wave ry high quality. No signs of injury or anything. It jsut wasnt what I paid for.

That plant has turned out to be a very nice rainbow plumie though and has been in bloom now for quite a while.

I've been watching the JLPP's on ebay for about a month or so now and kept saying I was going to bid on one but then would chicken out.

Last night I decided what the heck do it and get it over with so I found an auction by 1-stop-aloha who's name I also saw on the DG list of plumie people to buy from so I jumped on it.

Please someone here tell me that this person sends correctly labled plants and isnt another mantisbee.

The auction plant is 13" tall with 4 tips and I saw this morning when checking my emails that I did win it. If this one ends up not being the real thing,i'm giving up on every having one in my yard!!

Matt is a nice guy and sends large, healthy, correctly labelled cuttings. No worries, Mate. Another good source is the hybridizer's daughter-in-law, Hawaii Sandy, Sandy Lavarias Little.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Matt is terrrific!!
Congrats on finding a good vendor
Watch the auction closely in the last 25 minutes, snipers in the woods!!
Or just buy one outright from Suki. ;^)

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I won the auction from Matt. The final price was somewhere in the neighborhood of $20. Now I just need to get him paid so the plant can be shipped.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Excellent price man!!
Congrats!
Shes a great bloomer and very desirable
