Before I kill another one

Is there anything special to growing these? Colocasia gigantea. And is lime green the normal color?

I love the color! I have it in one of my lime green combo pots. If it gets dark green, I will be sad.

THANKS

Kell, you kill these?? I can't, they just keep multiplying... the color should be ae like color. The leaves are thin so keep out of the wind, and give half day shade.Water and feed like other types..Ta da! LOL

I use em in public displays as filler. They can get incredibly large in one season.

Oh I know I am an embarrassment to the tropical forum, Kyle! Though I may not kill this one for it was only $10. I usually only kill the ones I spend big bucks on. And they are the alocasia ones.

I have a few of the colocasia ones that are into their second year. But this one I noticed has its second leaf looking a bit off, so I panicked.

It is not a filler in my pot, but the main event!

Can it be overwatered easily?

Here's a picture of mine - included a lime for color reference. I just got it this spring from PDN http://www.plantdelights.com/Catalog/Current/Detail/05896.html Leaves start out with a bit of a grey/blue cast and then become more greenish as they age. The reverse side stays greyish.

A shot of the underside of the leaf - sorry for the poor lighting.

Edited to add - I have mine in almost full sun. I water and fertilize it a lot because I want it to grow fast. So far no problems.

Should be very easy to grow. It is also hardy in my zone6 if I mulch it a few inches. I have seen photos of it over 7 to 8 feet tall with massive leaves. Its a heavy feeder. Usually a light bluish green coloration with a dusty white chalk on the stems. The flowers are white with pink inside the spath and usually come out in a large cluster fan shape. Looking more like a bird of paridise crossed with a peace lily is what the flowers remind me of.

Doesn't seem to like aquatic conditions so watch the overwatering.Mine gets small in winter if kept in a cool greenhouse, then as soon as it gets warm..BOOM! all over the place. My Al. Robustas are just getting wound up..they love heat and humidity.

Kyle, would you kindly describe how you get them through the Iowa winter?

Thank you.

Erick
