Begonia ID

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I recently got home from vacation and was fortunate enough to be able to stop at some nurseries along the way, and found quite a few rex begonias that I just loved.

I also found this one, I don't know if it's a rex. but I loved it, It has no id anybody have a clue?

I don't like to buy them without an id but I just loved the leaves.

So are the leaves solid green or do they have a reddish cast to them?
I was thinking maybe Crestabruchii but most images show solid green.
Can you add anymore images showing more detail of the leaves?

I just did a search for Crestabruchii it doesn't look like mine too much, they do have a reddish cast to them, I'll get more pictures later on tonight or in themorning.

I sure would like to find a name for this one, it's so neat looking

Hi Kathy_Ann! how are those begonias I sent you last year doing? You should see the jasmine and adenium you sent and Brug too! Everyone is thriving! I put the jasmine on a circular trellis (like a wreath type trellis) and it's doing great! I waited and waited for that adenium to put on leaves and then finally it sprouted and now is doing great.

I think your begonia may be b. bunchii http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/90253.html
(and here's an image of one from the other gardening site http://hortiplex.gardenweb.com/plants/jour/p/35/gw1092435/58849993760020.jpeg

Mine changes color (more green or copper) according to the amount of sunlight and the degree of 'ruffles' depends on the age of the leaves (for me)

According to the database it says
name -seed parent -type -hybridizer -location -date
Bunchii -Feastii sport -rhiz -Bunch -KS -1931

Who ever it is, it's a keeper for sure!

ARGH!! I thought it might be bunchii I have a humongous one out in the greenhouse already but it's more green than this one, Now I have two of them I knew I liked that one for a reason LOL

your begonias are doing great. I lost a couple of them that were to be rooted. but for the most, their huge now.

the bunchii is different from the crestibunchii is it? just wondering.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

My other bunchii doesn't look like the one in the Plant data base, the ends of the leaves aren't as curly as the one in the link.

I guess they grow differently in diff climax

Yes, you're right, they are different.
Here's the database info for b. crestabruchii
name -seed parent -pollen parent -type -hybridizer -location -date
Crestabruchii -manicata crispa -Sunderbruchi -rhiz -Lewis -1938

Here's b. manicata crispa

And both of my bunchii look a bit different. But don't rule out that you may have another hybrid that is just similar to b. bunchii. (where's Joolz and Butch when ya need em? They both have a great eye for ID)

Kathy_Ann, i'm wondering if what you have may be 'Madame Queen' I was thumbing through this vintage begonia catalog and though it's in black and white, the description could fit. I tried google-ing an image and found this. What do you think? http://www.pickoftheplanet.com/varieties/begoniamadame.html

Ohhh, we must find that one!!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

it does look like it doesn't it, the leave s onmine aren't quite so curled on the end, but I know that bunchii is curled like that, and my big one isn't quite that curly either

Looks a little bit like my Wineuma.I've been told that spelling is wrong but it's what's on the tag from Terra Nova.
