lmk what you want in trade. thanks. barb
WANTED: Alstroemeria
Geez, let me know if you find any. I have found not too many people here on DG have these plants and I love them.
I do have a yellow one but it is kind of invasive in the right area. It likes good soil and lots of water. I ended up moving it to a drier area and it isn't very invasive now. LOL
Carol
same what daisyruffles said. I found one at a nursery for $25, I wasn't willing to pay that much. But even at the price, that has been the only place where I saw them. I got seeds for some gorgeous one, but I didn;t get around to planting (bending head in shame)
I have some with the red and green flowers, if you are interested. What types of plants do you have to trade for?
i have no idea the cost of these plants, pins so i don't want to insult you with the wrong plant. please lmk what you might want. these are the plants that i have:
variegated peacock ginger
s. microphylla hot lips
s. black and blue
s. pratensis
s. victoria blue
queen victoria lobelia (although these have been severely cut back as we are having an extreme drought in texas)
colocasia ruffles (small)
buddleia honeycomb
crossvine
black knight canna
australia canna
false indigo
pavonia lasiopetala
malvaviscus drummondii
schefflera sunburst
bulbine frutescans.......yellow
lycoris radiata
if none of that interests you i will go and take an inventory. also, daisy, would you trade your yellow for any of that?
AND VOSSNER, I AM LAUGHING AT YOU BECAUSE I HAVE A TON OF SEED ALSO THAT NEVER MADE IT TO THE STARTING SOIL. HAHAHAHA
WHY DON'T MORE PEOPLE GROW THIS PLANT? I HEAR THAT IT'S INVASIVE IN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS BUT OTHER FOLKS DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT AT ALL. IS THIS TRUE........THE WETTER THE SOIL THE MORE INVASIVE THIS PLANT IS? if that's the case it ought to be easily controlled here.
I'd love to trade for your s. microphylla hot lips. Would that be a rooted cutting or small plant? Would it be too hot to trade now? Just let me know.
these plants are about 8-12 inches tall. they were rooted at the beginning of this year. they have been in the ground for over a month so the root system ought to be really good because when i put them in the ground they had a good root system to start with. this heat and drought have not stopped my trading and i am getting good plants when they are sent properly and folks say my plants are healthy when they arrive. so i think it's o.k. i can send my end tomorrow if you like. barb
That would be great. I won't be able to send mine until Saturday, if that's okay with you. Is your address in the exchange? mine is.
The alstromeria that get taller tend to be more invasive. I have a lovely one that is bright orange/yellow, its about 2.5 feet tall and invasive as can be. I also have some taller peachy colored ones, same thing. The smaller dwarf ones tend to be better behaved. I do have the smaller in red, pink, dark pink and peach. They stay about 12 inches or so. The taller ones make better cut flowers as you get a nice stem. If you are interested, I would be interested in some crossvine. If you would like more than one then I can do a larger trade with you.
If you are doing them from seed I will tell you of my mistake. I planted a bunch of seed, left them out "winter sowed" them. I did not think they would germinate because I had heard they were difficult. They all come up, hundreds of them. I transplanted them and killed all but about 6. If you are doing seed, it would be good to put the seed where you want them or sow thinly in single pots. What I SHOULD have done.
PS That salvia "Hot Lips" is the nicest salvia in the world. Always looks wonderful, even in winter and blooms here till frost.
Rebecca
oh, rebeccanne let's try to get a REAL trade going if we can. i want all of those alstro's...even the "invasive" ones. invasive to me is trumpet vine (campsis) or goldenrod that sends underground runners here, there and everywhere. i have some plants like salvia uliginosa that can take over an area but are easily removed when you get too many. and i would never be without it. wine cup and spider lilies grow the same way here. lmk what kind of plants you would like in a trade. barb
PINS, let me send you this plant tomorrow and sat. will be fine for you to send. also, this is not meant to pressure you but if you can't mail on sat. for whatever reason can you hold off till around the 16th as i am leaving next wed. for a week? matters not to me if it's sat. or the 16th. whatever works best for you. thanks for trading. barb also, even though you are sending only the one plant would you please write alstroemeria on it somewhere as i trade a lot and i won't remember what it is when it gets here if you don't.
mamajack,
Take a look in that box I sent you. I saw this post so went out and dug some. I don't know what color they are as they haven't bloomed here yet. These may be the ones considered invasive, I dunno, I was actually hoping they would look like a parrot flower, and who knows they might. Anyway, I found they don't like getting dug too much, but the root's are healthy and they will grow back.
It's July, all these mystery plants should be showing themselves by now, but they aren't.
But don't stop asking for these on my account, not til you see what they do for you. :^))))
Molly
Will do!
