wallaby, that's a very nice shot. I bought this bulb late this year--about 2 weeks ago. I planted it right away. Any idea on when it might break ground?

Hi irmaly, 2 weeks ago is a bit late in the season, they start to grow quite late in spring but do grow quickly. It should be in a real hurry to get itself rooted and grow now, once it has roots it will appear very quickly to try and flower before the season ends. This changes very quickly to a mango flush, it already is developing tinted edges. Mine was already established but only kept in a cold greenhouse until the weather improved towards summer.

Good luck!

Well, I'm not even expecting a bloom this year, but wanted to get it going. I will have to overwinter and don't have a greenhouse, so my plan is to store in the pots (dry) in our basement over winter. Sound like a plan? I just got interested in callas this year and bought quite a few. Only one did I buy as a plant and it has been blooming now for months. I really love it.

It should be OK as long as you give it light in spring and give it a gradual watering then. The bulbs will increase, I haven't dried them and they have been kept moist (I don't water in winter but they don't dry), if in dark they might not like being wet.

I have increased my interest in them and have slowly collected some, I can see that escalating! Once you find out how to look after them, and that you CAN grow them, there's no stopping!

Be prepared for a surprise, you may get a/several blooms, they are hormone treated to bloom when you buy them. Don't add phospates to the compost that will rot the bulb, but if you water a tomato type food in that will help.
