My first Macgillivrayi

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

She finally strutted her stuff and I am SO happy!!! This one didn't come from David Liddle, so I have no idea of the IML# corresponding to it...it came from a trade who got it from Logees, I think. I have waited so long for this!!! Onychoides is about to bloom too, so I will post the flowers together if she hurries up!!!

Congratulations!!!
Macgillivrayi is my absolute favourite flower No 1. Also the smell is a favourite. Smells sooo good!!

My mac has bloomed once and that was during a period of two months. Surprisingly enough that was during our darkest time of the year, January - March. In January for example we don't have daylight many hours a day. I was really surprised that it started to bloom just at that time of the year.

Thanks.... It is pouring down rain but I am going out with the brolly to check the fragrance. Hasta manana....

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

WOW, Carol. That is simply stunning!
Are you doing the "happy dance"?

Very pretty, Carol and I'm not at all jealous (I'm lying, but you know that!)... Oh well, some day my little cutting (6 inches high) will look like that!

When you don't want more rain, could you send it my way? We REALLY need it! I'm melting in this heat.

Carol - VEEEERY nice!! Is it in a hanging basket or up a trellis? I have a cutting my sis gave me that....all of a sudden....is growing gangbusters and I'm wondering in what kind of container it should go in. It gets large, doesn't it? Great growing!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

WOW - beautiful flower and beautiful picture!!

Long Beach, CA

There are a bunch of different macgillivrayiis around. I have a couple from DL that are different (not bloomed yet), and I have some that I got last summer that didn't have names (one has buds), plus I have the little one from Logees. Can anyone tell by that flower which mac. that is? I guess if the one I got from Logees ever blooms, that is what it will be. Thanks for posting that, Carol.

Wow, lovely vibrant color.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

My take is that you can only really tell from the flowers which differnt clone it is....

Yes, it has a sweet 'like good soap' fragrance...but not cloying.

It is in a hanging basket with a tomato cage...it is climbing up the cage.... So I think it would like to grow like it's cousins H. archboldiana etc.

Love those biggy flowers!!!

Nice one Carol! Mine is finally starting to put out more than one new leaf a year!

San Francisco, CA

Carol, do you have that almost black one? 'macgillivrayii from padanthus creek' or something like that...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Yes...I have it...but it is still a toddler. :>)

Örebro, Sweden

My macgillivrayi is probably 'Pandanus Creek'. The person I bought it from is almost certain that it is that one.
Here she is.
