Hi everyone,
I've been working on my pond since early April. We finally just got it up and running. There's still much "finish" work left to do, but it's coming along. The pond starts with a 70 foot stream - the first 45 feet a gentle slope, the last 25 feet a series of 5 cascades. The waterfalls drop into a small kidney shaped pool which is connected to a larger pond by a narrow channel.
Thanks for looking.
My Pond Pictures - Almost done!
Oops - sorry the pictures are so large. They lwere much smaller in the slideshow view I was using...
Is there a way to post multiple pictures in one post, or do you have to submit a separate post for each photo as I have just done.
Thanks again for looking.
OMG how beautiful is that!! You really worked hard but the results are just amazing. I never fail to be inspired by the hardworking and imaginative people at DG. :)
Wow, what size pump are you running.
That's beautiful!
Oh my, I'm ashamed to say I'm so jealous I could just cry! It's beautiful!!!
Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Rylaff, the pump is an Artesian 1/3-56. It's probably pumping about 4000 gph.
Oh thats beautiful. Im turning green. Dixie
Oh my gosh- that is incredible!!!!! You should be so proud- it's absolutely gorgeous! :)
Wow! Truly remarkable. This should be a magazine spread.
Absolutly Stunning ! What awesome artistic work you do !!!!
Congratulations on such a masterwork ,
now pull up a chair stream side relax and soak in all that beauty :)
Teresa
Just awesome!! The warterfall is stunning!!! How many gallons?? You must have a big yard to be able to contruct a huge pond!!. If you haven't seen my pond, the thread is called new members pond. Bellie
Hey Bellie, I just checked out your pond. Very nice - your fish are gorgeous. I just put a dozen goldfish in mine so I'll probably need to net it eventually, but right now they are so tiny that I doubt I will have a problem with the heron that visits the pond across the street from me. I think I have about 3000 gallons. My yard isn't that large - about 1/2 acre. I just don't have a lot of grass left :o)
THanks everyone else for your comments.
Wow, that is a great work of beauty! You have a nice slope yard it appears and shade to enhance the woodsy stream concept you seem to have captured so well. Good job! I can almost hear it! LOL!
Question, what is the round gizmo at the top of the stream? Is it just a pump, or a biofalls system?
This beautiful! It does blend right into your yard like it belongs there.Enjoy!
Sheila - there is a 150 gallon biological filter at the top of the stream. I'm hoping the ferns will eventually hide it...
This is absolutely beautiful. You can tell alot of thought and hard work went into it. It certainly blends in with the yard to make it look natural. Now, just enjoy it - I know you will.
Did you make your pond or had a pond designer make it? Bellie
Hi Bellie,
I did all the work myself. My husband helped a little bit - but he was very busy with another project so I was pretty much on my own for most of it. Even though it was at times back-breaking labor, I enjoyed it immensley. I have a stressful job and somehow it helped me to unwind after work and on the weekends.
Wow!!! What a lady!!! You must be well read on ponds and physicaly fit to do this project. Ours was built by a pond designer, I do not have the know how 3 years ago and my DH would rather play golf on his day off. You did a wonderful job and saved a lot of money. Again just awesome!! Bellie
Wow! You are a very talented pond designer, and should consider changing jobs. I do believe I speak for everyone that you have done a fantastic job. It really does look as though it has been there all along. Your plantings are a masterpiece too! Oh and congratulations on your first lily bloom. I am sure you'll have many more because they have such an awesome place to grow.
Ok so when can you come build mine, lol.
Thank you, Bellie and Edenawaits, for your kind words. I owe all my "inspiration" to nature, lots of pictures, and lots of lots of reading. I actually built my first pond and waterfall last year. It was a MAJOR struggle for me - I had no idea how to build a waterfall - and I wasn't happy with the results so I started over this spring. But all last winter I read many books on water features, looked at tons of pictures and studied nature until I had a picture etched in my mind of what I wanted. This made it SO much easier when it was time to start digging. I'm really NOT an artistic person by nature - so I guess with a lot of reading and preparation, anyone can build a lovely water feature.
randbponder - great pond, fish and waterfall! Indeed you should NOT be jealous of anyone else's pond. Whether its a small tub garden with a beautiful lily or a huge pond, if it brings peace, joy and happiness to the owner, it is a perfect water garden indeed! Thanks for sharing your pictures.
By the way, I think I have the same water lily as you but I lost the labels for them. Do you know what it's name is?
Absolutely Beautiful!
Ahh, to be young and strong again. I could have done all that work willingly in my younger years but alas...not any more.
You have my dream....all of it...stream, multi-falls, much rock and stone, all the trees, plants.......
I have a 5500+ gallon pond that I love...but I couldn't have it natural as I needed a place to sit upon the edge. My Koi are part of my family with my kids grown and gone. The dogs, cat and I enjoy time at the pond. No matter what chores need to be done, they are never work....just pleasure JUST because it is a pond.
You have done such a marvelous job....I thank you for sharing all the lovely pictures.
and....I totally agree with you about ponds.....if it is just a bit more than a puddle of water or a pond big enough to row a boat on, a pond is enjoyment, peace and pleasure and loved by those who are near it.
wow, well done songsofjoy, you should be very proud! Absolutely stunning.
Pat yourself on the back!!! Exceptional work!
Songsofjoy;
I don't remember the name . But I am sure that it was one I bought from either Menards or Lowes. I think there from Holland bulbs or something like that. I didn't think about keeping track. was just after nice looking lilies. But now you have me curious I have to go look and see if I can find out. This is still only my first year on DG. I had no idea of the interest in certain names and such.
I do believe yours is the same as mine. One that I have checked on is the attraction it's all red. Can't find that pic right now, here is another I don't have a name for but got it the same time.
Oh and Bing; Who says you have to be young , to put the work into a pond. I think work that is fun will keep you young. I'm just a spring chicken/ er - - -ah maybe rooster, an am retired for the "third" time now. I just go slower :-) hee hee. Just teasing, but when I want to put a rock up on the falls I want only to do it once. I found one that took all the strength I could muster up to get in the pickup, I haven't used it yet.
To me it seems way to heavy for no bigger than it is. Only a foot in diameter an it's at least 135lbs. Think I'LL have someone look at it.
Ok try get pic to come up!!!!
