Corn Question

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7b)

Hi All:

I'm a corn newbie.
I have planted 2 beds: One with a varity called Peaches N Crean and the other with Sliver cream.

The peaches n cream grew nicely and has developed ears but the ear feels small compared to the husk. The husk isn't tight around the ear like I would expect it to be. I have been fertilizeing with Alfakfa tea and fish emulsion. The Silver quees looks fine so far.

Are there any tips that you can share with a newbie?

Thanks

It may be that the Peaches and Cream didn't pollinate good...and it may still be growing. Carefully peel back some shucks on an ear and see what you've got.

Silver Queen is pretty much foolproof. I've seen it produce corn in some of the most horrible conditions...it's one of those that you just can't mess up.

Ther are two cultivars of Peaches and Cream. The early version, like most early corns has smaller ears. The midseason is the better cultivar, but both are relatively easy to grow. Don't worry about the husks, but when the silks turn brown, take Melody's advice and take a look. Either one should be ready weeks ahead of the Silver Queen.

Peaches n Cream is a favorite variety for many gardeners in this area. It is a nice tasting corn and quite popular.

How tall did yours get? Two ears per stalk? Thanks.
