The agapanthus that I planted in March did well until June, now they are declining, yellow leaves. I thought they weren't getting enough water so I watered more but it does no good. We did cut down a mesquite tree that gave them a little shade. Is that the problem? Or is it the awful heat? I'd appreciate your input.
Agapanthus declining, help!
Agapanthus require excellent drainage. They will rot (leaves turn yellow, due to root and bulb rot) when the soil stays too wet. We're in the same zone, and mine are doing fine, so I don't think the heat has anything to do with it. I would look at the roots and the moisture level.
Thanks ceejaytown, maybe I'm watering them too much, and we did have a long period of rain a couple of weeks ago and more coming this week.
Does that area drain well? I'm hoping you have them in a raised bed.....

It helped my container grown agapanthus to prune them back a bit - healthier looking new growth is on it's way back up!
