Am I seeing things, or was I dreaming?

Long Beach, CA

Did anyone ever have a hoya open it's buds...then CLOSE them again? I have a H. vitilana that has a nice set of buds that night before last I SWEAR were all open. I even took the plant down and smelled them to see how they smelled. (It was not too pleasant really). They reminded me in looks of the H. cv. Joy I just got from Carol (which didn't surprize me as it IS one of the parents of it.) Then I thought to myself, I will get a picture of these in the morning. Well....next morning...all the buds were closed up. I thought maybe they closed up at night & would open again. Nope...they have not opened back up. What do you think of this? Am I dreaming of open buds now?

Marcy, my aff. finlaysonii has done that. It opened, closed, then opened again, I thought that they were going to fall off and last only for one day, but they lasted well over a week. I know I wasn't hallucinating, because they are in my bathroom hanging over a tub and I really has to balance to climb up and look at them several times a day to be sure the buds were real! I run barefoot, so I was constantly scrubbing dirty foot prints off, just to go and get up there again.
I would think that they would open again.

Marcy, I wondered the exact same thing. I posted it here a bit ago, but never got an answer so I wondered. oddly enough all the buds dropped a day or two after they closed up =(

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/613060/ (scroll down to the last post I made) BetsyJ thought it was aff. Finlaysonii so maybe that's its habit?

Yeppers - my "aff. finlaysonii " did that.........opened during the day....then closed up tighter than a bugs butt at night. My flowers hung on for...oh, maybe 5 days or so......then dropped off.
I had NO IDEA a hoya would do that...! Cactus flowers do....lots of flowers do....just didn't know Hoyas did.

My hypolasia did that too and scared the #¤"% out of me! I thought the flowers lasted only one day since they were totally closed again early in the morning the day after they had opened, but they opened up again a couple hours later and kept doing this for 5 or 6 days.

Hey Christina!
Uh, what is a "hypolasia" - is that a hoya? Sounds like a medical condition or something. =0) ha ha

Betsy, hypolasia IS a hoya and a favourite of mine now that it has bloomed: http://www.myhoyas.com/hypo.htm

Christina, I'm pretty much a neophyte with hoyas, but are my eyes deceiving or does hypolasia have 'fur' on the leaves?

Marcy I can only imagine how confusing that must have been. I would have loved to have seen the look on your face:-).

OK, I want that too! That is BEAUTIFUL Christina!!! Awesome photo - you can see the little white "horseshoe" outline in the corona - too cute!
Now, where can a little hoya tramp find herself such a lovely plant???

Marcy, did they ever open up again or that was it?

I guess you could say that hypolasia is a bit "furry".

No, not much scent. Very faint if you stick your nose in the flowers.

Ann, you have D-mail.

no....alas...they turned brown & fell off. Don't know what went wrong. We are having a mini heat wave here. Maybe just the extreem change in temps or something.
