Need ID for Clematis Found in Woods

Athens, OH

Can anyone ID this?
I found the vine growing in the woods (on a rocky bank in the shade) in Wellston Ohio while we were hiking today. I had several of these ruby flowers.

Thanks, ROX

Clematis Texensis? If so it is one that I have been searching for. You are very lucky to have found it. It is also known as Scarlet Clematis.

Bushwood has a species Texensis.

Gosh-
It does look like C. Texensis but how the heck did it get here in Ohio?
There is some farm land about a 1/2 mile away and there is a road near the bank where I found it, but hummm.....

Patsy-
Well, I feel lucky we found it then. If it roots [I took 3 plants], I let you know.
Thanks for helping with the ID.

Please do keep me in mind. I have the purple variety. (Pitcheri also known as purple leatherflower). I found it last year at a small mom and pop nursery. I had bought seed from another source but was unable to get them to germinate. I tried the seed from the plant I bought and had really good luck with germination by planting them when they were just turning brown. I would really be interested in a trade if you are successful in getting one to root.

Clematis viorna L.

If so, it isn't as good a story as a remote Texas Clematis ending up in Ohio, but it makes more sense.

I think you have viorna, also.
