Sounded like a touchy subject. However, since almost all of us have a cat (or more), we are a sympathetic bunch of cat lovers, so if ya ever DO want to share the story....we are all ears.

I will take one if I may. Check, cash, visa, mastercard....just say the word!! I've got 4 strictly indoor cats, love them dearly, but just let them overturn one of my precious hoyas, and watch the cat crisis happen in my house. Seriously though, hope all is well with your poor little one. I would love to have you autograph it also, what a super bonus.

I'm in can't wait,I would like it signed to punkie's Mom...My little bundle of fur...He knows he's moma's little baby!!! Well he had a hair cut about two months ago had one of those lion cuts,for a while there he wasn't warming up to me but now he looks like he really likes it!!! LOL I left all his main around his neck and one of the guys working on the house asked Why I told him so Punkie wouldn't notice his hair cut!!!!!! I got a strange look out of him!! LOL

O.K. you twisted my arm!...Where to begin? Maybe at the beginning. First..well, I love cats, love dogs too and have always had several, usually poodles, the small variety. But cats are my first love. I love their little angel faces and the way they snuggle into my neck when I pick them up. I love the way they curl up on my lap and will snooze for hours, I love to see them stretch and yawn, and I'm a real sucker for a baby kitten. I won't go into all the cats I've had through the years or the happy times with them and the sad times, I'll just say we've had lots of both. For the past 10 years I've had at least 10 cats at all times, with the lastest acquisitions being 2 Bengals that I've had for about 3 years. Late last fall someone dumped a little mother cat and a tiny baby kitten on my doorstep. The baby had his eyes open but was so young he was still wobbly on his legs. He only lived a few weeks. I had a heck of a time catching the mother cat, as she was about half wild..or maybe just scared to death, but I finally coaxed her into the greenhouse and started feeding her in there. It took me another month to be able to pick her up and get her into the house. After about a month of being in the house with my cats, I took her to the vets to have her spayed and get her shots. She was there for a few hours when I got a call from the vet. He said he had bad news. I figured she had died from the anesthetic, but no, he called to tell me she had tested positive for the FIV virus. That is a virus in cats that is equal to the aids virus in humans. I asked him what we could do, and he said nothing for her, she must be put to sleep and all my cats had to be tested to see if any of them had gotten the virus from her. Had any of them tested positive, they would have had to be put to sleep also. Fortunately none of them did but we had to start them on a series of shots to make sure they didn't pick it up later from where she had gone potty. They all had to have an initial shot, then 3 boosters, one every ten days. We were down to just 3 cats left to finish up the boosters when my husbands uncle died and left 16 cats for someone to take care of. Of course the job fell to me since everyone in the family knew I loved cats and they all lived at least 45 miles away, and his home was only 4 miles from me. This is the latest Cat Crisis that I was hinting at. I drove up and fed them at his house for about a week, then started catching them to get their shots and spayed and neutered. Out of the 16 there were 6 big males, none which had been neutered, and 10 females, 8 which were already pregnant. One was too young (just a baby) and the other was too old. We've been trying to find homes for them, the Cats Organization and the Humane Society are both helping us, but the truth is everyone wants baby kittens and besides I have become so attached to everyone of them that I'm not sure that I can part with any of them. One of the males found a way out of the garage and ran away and I've been pining for him ever since.
Well that's my story. Everybody on my block calls me the "crazy old lady at the end of the street with all the cats". Yep, that's what I am. This is a photo of one of my Bengals, her name is Annie.
And...I can attest to her lovely Bengals. Never got close to the others... and there are a whole mess of cats and a lovely caring woman taking care of them....

That is so sad about the mother cat and the kitten. Those other cats can be happy that there are people like you, Ann. Not many would have taken all those cats in. Annie is so cute!

Sign me up for a book! I have a whole lot to learn. I'm learning from all of you already. Wish I could have a cat - I have terrible allergies, but I love them. I'll have to settle for my birds and my new puppy, Sandy.

Wow...that is quite a cat adventure you've been on. I never knew there was a cat virus like that. I had a litter of pups once with Parvo virus, which is just about as bad as it gets for them. After much money and constant care, I pulled them through, but it was a rough few weeks. What a kind cat mommy you are.

The bengal is a beauty. Yep, love cats and dogs too! Was raised with dogs, cats, birds and even a duck at one time. I hope you can find a home for some of them. I would have you ship me one but I already have two dogs and three cats.......

Ann - your story - and you - are the epitome of what I love about this forum....it proves, without a doubt, that learning about hoyas and possessing relationship-building characteristics, such as interest in, and compassion for, each other - even our animals - are not mutually exclusive!!

Ann you are very special! I am a foster parent for the humane society here, and we see so many animals that are so unloved and neglected! It is absolutely wonderful what you do for those cats.

Why don't you start a new thread, tell us which hoyas you have and how you grow them....perhaps someone can help. GOODNEZZ..don't throw them out. There are addicts in Texas who would killl or maim for them!!!

Bless your little ol' pea-pickin' heart!! What a lovely story. Sorry to hear about the FIV - my daughter adopted a cat, ended up having FIV and they had to put him to sleep too. Thankfully, their "baby" (their other, and FIRST cat) tested negative.
I've always been an animal lover and rescued many myself....cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, turtles.....you name it.
My kitty "Abby" (aka "Fat Cat"....thanks you!

Hi Ann - thank you for sharing your wonderful cat crisis story! I love cats too, and I currently have 2 - both rescued. I had my last cat for 22 years; I also know the "sad times" as well as the happier ones. My younger cat, Krystal, just loves my H. lacunosa - which is finally blooming :-)! She bats at the little leaves dangling down from the plant shelf! I have posted a photo of her and she thanks you too along with BetsyJ's "Abby"! Abby & Annie are so sweet.

I have no indoor cats at this time,(have 2 outdoors that live in our garage) but have always been a cat lover.
My dad really despised cats, but there were *only* a few days, literally, of my childhood that I was without a cat, despite that fact.
A baby kitten is absolutely one of my favorite things in the world....I'm a big sucker for any baby kitten!
