Dressy AV "pots"

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi AV buds,

Here are some neato "pots" I've found (incredibly cheap too may I add) at Salvation Army and Goodwill stores. I go in every once in a while and peruse the shelves. The prices I pay range from .75 to $3 depending on what it is and the size. You can find amazing things there sometimes! I bought a few of them from Ebay, but with shipping I pay quite a bit more. I place a wick in the planter the plant is planted in, then trail it down into the pretty "pot", makes it easy for a lazy gardner like me! The trick is in finding something pretty that an AV-sized pot will fit into nicely.

I'm particularily fond of AV's in teapots, they just seem to fit the plant's "personality". There is one on the lower shelf on the left........and a mini in a tea cup on the top shelf.

I have no idea what this plant is cultivar-wise but it's one of my very favorites!

Your Ruby red plant is beautiful ! Love your pot holders also. I enjoy pieces like these also. Looks like you got some milk glass.

OT a taddy, but I wanted to explain...

The cabinet the plants in the first pic are sitting on is a book cabinet I'm working on. I have finished one of the doors (to hide the books for a cleaner look!) and am working on the other. Here is a pic of the finished door, I am using "Gallery Glass", which is a fake liquid plastic that ends up looking like stained glass. Great fun!

Karen,

Isn't it wonderful what you can find at thrift stores to put the babies in. I love to look for diff. things for them. I got some cups to put some in that look nice.

Your "Gallery Glass" door is also pretty ! Your very talented. Thanks for sharing !

Thanks Allison. I do have some milk glass. I started with old white pottery pieces but found that the milk glass looked good too. This is DD's old room, she took over DS's room when he moved out so that left me with a place to use for the computer, sewing, crafts....whatever! I liked the way the white pieces looked against the wall color. I am still putting up the moldings, and finishing the room. And I need to find a gateleg table somewhere. That way I can open it up to sew or do crafts with DD, but close it up so it won't take up space in the small room when not in use. Once I get the table and finish labeling boxes and drawers in the closet it will be time to PLAY in there!

Morning!

Oh what pretty pots! I love milk glass too but never thought of using them for wicking! Ingenious! Looks like you have a nice bright place in that corner! TFS!

Allison you have some cute pots too! I love those gals with their feet hanging over the edge of the shelf! TFS!

Beautiful! Great display of glass and plants.

Those are so pretty! I have a hard time finding "pots" that my minis will fit in. Most of them are way too big. And that cabinet door is beautiful! You're so creative!

I like to use tea cups for minis. Here is a picture of Whiz Bang

Nanna, Whiz Bang is adorable in it's little teacup. What a great idea! And your doilies are absolutely beautiful. I've been crocheting for almost 40 years, but can never seem to get the hang of working with smaller threads like crochet cotton. I have fairly large hands, and always have trouble with the smaller size needles.

Everyone has so many wonderful ideas to show off their violets! I love all of them!

Hmmm... Going shopping today anyway... Maybe I'll stop in at the dollar store and see what they have...

Nanna I say the same thing Stephanie said ! Whiz Bang is adorable in it's little teacup

Hey Stephanie, if you're going to Dollar General, they have 10 packs of 3 inch pots (plastic, but terra cotta colored) for $1. I love them! I buy every pack I find when I'm there, but they've sold out again and don't expect to get anymore. :o( You might like to look for those and see if they'd be something you'd like for potting up younger plants.

Sliverglade Streams ~ I grew many and gave them all away. This is one AV I'd love to have another one or a leaf of. Silverglade Streams is on my wish list again !

With stuff we sold outright to places and yard sale ~
Ebay ~ Karen we had the most gorgous Antique Gate Leg table sold it on Ebay~ Sold a hutch/china cabinet on Ebay too this went local an hour or so away for a women opening a Tea House.
We did make a couple K for everything and we had no room ~

Karen we shipped the large heavy table Fed-Ex. Fed0Ex is the cheepest for heavy itmes.
We sold my dad's exercise thing for Mom he had died. It weighed 68 pounds and it cost little under 21.00 to ship. UPS wanted $160.00 Postal service said re-pack too big. lol
We have shipped many a large heavy things a;; Fed-Ex. Wish I still had the picture of it to show you. I had never seen one before.
