Thalia dealbata

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Thalia dealbata is an excellent pond plant. Does not grow too aggressively, easy to care for, and makes for an interesting pond speciman. The flower stems rises up eight feet or so and then blooms small purple flowers. It flowers through most of the summer. Here is a close up pick of the flowers. They are just now starting to produce seed. Each seed is simlar in shape and size to canna seed.

Lisa, are those easy to grow from seed? That is one of those plants I see people looking for often and I don't have them either.

I have never tried to grow them from seed because they are so easy to divide. However, I am willing to save the seeds for someone if they want to give it a shot.

Unless you have another taker, can I beg for them? :) I'd be happy to trade you something of your choice. I noticed you said they look like canna seeds so I wonder if they are as easy to start.

Well, if you decide you want to give it a shot, let me know. I will go ahead and collect seed as they mature just in case (unlless the darn squirrels get them.)

I'll try anything once. LOL Thank you. Now go run those squirrels off!!
