Towering lotus

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Okay, one of my lotus is now over five feet tall. I am really glad I put them in containers and not in my pond. My pond just is not big enough.

Nice :) What cultivar is it ?
I have them in pots in and out of the pond and have to agree ..
I prefer keeping them out of the pond .Ive sunk a few in bogs beside the pond and that seems the best method for me .
I had a large lotus jump the pot and its been allot of work trying to get that beauty OUT !

Teresa, your lotus can jump in my pond any day :)

Be careful!!! I had mine in a pot too. In one year they took over my pond and I could never find the tubers to get them out.

Hey CC , heed tortoisekeepes advice ! I have runners to share with everyone because I have to pull them out of the courtyard pond daily or they will take over ,no kidding ! If I dont share them they are just so much compost .
Id rather share :) but please pot yours out of the pond or it will try to take over the world !

Tresamas

What kind do you have? I had to leave all of mine behind when I relocated from Louisiana to Tennessee. I have a small pond here and would like to put a lotus in a pot along side of the pond.

This is the third season for my lotus and it just keeps getting better. :-) This bloom stood about 36" over the water level and was about 13" in diameter. This image was on day one just as it began to unfold. Fully open for three days (closing in late afternoon for the night) and all petals dropped by mid-morning on day four. Here it is in past years http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/69016/index.html

Lovely blooms you all have posted !
